The Power Of An Egg And Cheese Sandwich At Marist College

When people think of breakfast they tend to think of: pancakes, French toast, bacon, sausage, yogurt parfaits, fruit, or even skipping the meal in general. However, thanks to one magical lady named Antoinette the first thing that comes to my mind when I think of breakfast is a classic egg and cheese sandwich. Not just any egg and cheese sandwich. A heavenly three eggs with spinach, mushrooms, and extra cheese sandwich on a roll. The one sandwich that gets me through my toughest day (Thursday) of three morning classes in a row. The one sandwich that motivates me to get up in the morning even when I don’t have any morning classes (now that is some dedication right there). The one sandwich that I will probably use all of my meal swipes for next year as a sophomore. The one sandwich that makes breakfast my favorite meal at Marist College (and I’m not a big breakfast person so this a big deal for me)!

Antoinette’s egg line is open every weekday morning from 8:00-11:00 a.m. she makes egg white omelets, eggs over easy, over medium, well done, with different fix ins to choose from. Such as: ham, tomatoes, jalapenos, green peppers, onions, spinach, mushrooms, and cheese. You can also put in potatoes, bacon, hash browns, and sausage from the other breakfast lines. So if you think that I’m crazy to believe that an egg and cheese sandwich is that good I honestly don’t care! Because I know that I’m not the only person who feels this way about the egg line at Marist College. This eggcellent (egg pun number one) woman knows my face and order by heart so well that she doesn’t even have to ask me or remind herself what I usually get. She immediately starts cracking those three eggs. But this magical process doesn’t just happen to me (I’m not trying to be biased here). It also happens with Freshman Caroline Walsh for eggsample (egg pun number two) she always orders two eggs with ham and cheese on a roll. And Antoinette immediately starts cracking two eggs the moment she sees Caroline’s face. But she always double checks her order to make sure that she has the right person with the right order (trust me there a lot of egg fanatics like me who are willing to wait in line who usually get the same order every week day).

“Two eggs with ham and cheese right?”

“You got it!”

Walsh also wondered: “how many eggs does she crack in a single day?” As the bird from the “blow pop” commercials would say: “the world may never know.” Antoinette does not have the time to count how many eggs she cracks! Each day she takes care of hundreds of people with hundreds of different crazy orders such as four eggs with potatoes, onions, bacon, sausage, green peppers, ham, jalapenos, tomatoes, and cheese. GOD BLESS THIS FREAKING WOMAN!

Antoinette’s overall sunny personality, smiling face, and the way she says the two simple words of “good morning” make my day and everyone’s day a whole lot brighter. So Antoinette, if you’re reading this I just want to let you know that I love what you do for everyone here at Marist. Keep cracking those eggs because your eggs are very eggcellent (I just had to repeat the first egg pun because it is too good)!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
