Have you ever felt like you just need a break from all of the hassle surrounding you in your everyday life. Or, what about when you're sitting in your room alone with nothing to do. Some resort to cleaning, some go work out, some bake - I do all of these things. Though, the one thing that really removes me and takes me into a parallel universe is reading.
A lot of the time I hear I'm crazy for enjoying reading. Most people think reading is for "nerds." Personally, if more people would give it a chance and find a book genre they enjoy, reading wouldn't be labeled for "nerds."
You know, there are many perks to reading too.
1. On a gloomy winter day reading can be you best friend. I especially love reading during the winter because when it's too cold to be outside, I snuggle up in my bed and read a summertime romance novel by Katherine Applegate. How can it get any better than that?
2. Those who read a lot tend to have a stronger vocabulary. When you read, you're exposed to many new words in context that you may not have heard of before. This broadens your vocabulary immensely because as you read you're always learning new words.
3. Reading reduces stress. Say you're having a stressful week, reading a fiction novel is a way to take a break and let your mind wonder into a different world.
4. Reading can inspire you. After I read a book I always have so much more motivation. I feel accomplished when I finish a book so I then feel as though I can accomplish even more throughout my day.
5. Through strength in spelling and vocabulary, having a strong memory and motivation - all of which are factors of reading. Those who read a lot tend to do better in school.
So, if you are a fan of reading like I am, be proud of yourself for enhancing your vocabulary while enjoying your time while reading a new novel. Also, if you haven't given reading a chance, you should try it out! It may pleasantly surprise you and you won't want to put your book down.

The Hunger Games Trilogy - Suzanne Collins
