Winter is here, it is actually here, as in no-more-50-degree days. Who were we kidding, thinking that we may skip right to spring? Nope. Whether we like it or not, time has progressed beyond the fun and exciting cold. Winter no longer consists of fun days spent sipping on hot chocolate and looking at all the Christmas lights strung across suburban homes. Instead, you are drinking caffeine as if it were going out of style and you are attempting to keep your eyes open while waiting for your car to defrost. Not quite the same feeling, is it? The months of January, February and March are some of the toughest for us New England natives. Despite having years and years of experience, snow still creates chaos. However, for college kids, this chaos does not really mean storm-shopping, but rather old-fashioned fun. Here are some of the reasons why being snowed in at college is the best:
1. Class getting cancelled.
Here is a tip: always check your email before class, it may just make your day. No class means no walking around campus fearing that you might trip and face plant. Bring it, snow!
2. Movie marathons.
Netflix all day, every day, but today you actually have an excuse.
3. You can finally order take-out without feeling guilty.
With the snow piling up there is just about a 99 percent chance you will not be leaving your room because who would walk through a blizzard for dining hall food? Absolutely no one and since you can't starve, the only solution is take-out.
4. Sleep, sleep and a little more sleep.
So I slept in until noon and I'm going to take a nap at three, what about it?
5. You don't even own a snow shovel.
Shoveling? Snow? Funny, I only have a sandcastle shovel for the beach...
6. You never have to get out of your pajamas.
It has practically been scientifically proven that pajamas are far warmer than any pair of pants and you do not want to mess with science.
7. Sledding.
Yes, it is just as much fun as when you were 12 years old.
Maybe snow isn't so bad after all. Between the great food and never having to get out of bed, blizzards are actually kind of like vacation. That is, until you actually have to go to class and you are basically wearing your carpet as a scarf. With each day, a new snow storm is looming. I wish you all happy snow days!
