It’s a new school year; which means the start of new classes, new routines, and for some students, a new place to live—off campus. Living off campus can be stressful, but it can also be one of the best decisions—especially if you get the chance to live with some of your closest friends. While you still have to spend actual money to buy food instead of meal plan money, the rewards still far outnumber the downfalls.
1. You always have someone around you can talk to
Knowing you’re going home to people who care about you is one of the best feelings. You can always have the comfort of knowing that you’re going home to friends.
2. You can create lifelong memories even when you’re not on campus
Living with friends means living with people you’ve bonded with. And when you bond with people, you’re bound to laugh and joke around and create beautiful memories.
3. You can count on having a comfortable environment
You’re living with the people that know you best and that you know best. Because of this, you know what kind of environment you can all live with and you make it happen. It’s comfortable for you and it’s comfortable for your roommates.
4. You get to cook instead of eating campus food all the time
Honestly, this might be one of the best perks. Every college student knows that after a while, the food on campus gets old and it’s really not that healthy. But when you live off campus, you get to cook. You know what’s going in your food and you can change things up. Plus, you might cook for your friends and they might cook for you. It’s a win-win.
5. You have your own space
Most often, when you live off campus, you have your own room. If you’re living with your best friends, it’s the best mix. You get to see them constantly, but you also have the opportunity to be by yourself and recharge—all while knowing if you need someone, they’re there.
6. You live with people that get you
At the end of the day, we all just want a friend and to be understood. If you get the chance to live off campus with your best friends, you get to be surrounded by not only those you’re closest to, but also those that just get you. It’s a pretty great feeling.
7. It provides a much needed change of scenery
After living on campus, you know that sometimes, you jus need a break. From school, from people, and from campus. This is especially true when the semester is at its peak time. Living off campus does all that. It gives you the break that you need so that you don’t see the stress every time you look out your window.
Living off campus is a great opportunity to take advantage of. You get to develop who you are and experience what life is like when you’re on your own. But it makes it even better when you get to live with your best friends. It adds a much needed element that serves as another piece to the puzzle of life.
