What is it going to be like at the gates of Heaven? This has been asked by men since the dawning of time. Few have seen this feat, while none have returned to tell of its glory. So what will your first glimpse of the kingdom of God be like? The answer is best told in an illustration:
Imagine at the moment of your death you are lucky enough to be standing in front of those magnificent golden gates; where the sounds of pure joy, happiness, and true peace ring out. Your mind is incapable of processing such marvelous effects, so you simply stand in total silence and awe. Suddenly the thought of “how could Iever be let into such a place?” races through your mind. The awe you previously felt turns to remorse and you begin realize precisely how unworthy you truly are.
Suddenly the presence of God overwhelms you while you instantly fall prostrate. Suddenly, the most powerful voice you’ve ever had the privilege of hearing (one that commands armies of angels, one that could twist the mightiest oak tree with a simple word) asks one simple question; why should you be allowed into my kingdom?
Instantaneously a film of your life begins to play, however the beginning, climax, fall, resolution, and theme of this film is sin. Every sin you have ever committed; cheating, lying, stealing, adultery, murder, etc. begins to play out across the sky for the entire universe to see, including the most holy himself. As every scene passes the lump in your throat grows larger, the tears in your eyes grow heavier, they fall to the ground with a great thud and your cries of remorse become louder. You lie on your face as you convulse inregret when suddenly all becomes quiet.
A pure white light pierces the atmosphere in front of you. A light brighter than you have ever previously experienced; it grows closer and yet closer. You realize as this light gets closer that it is in the form of a human body. You shield your eyes from the vigorous rays until the light is motionless right in front of you. You realize this light is what you have been yearning for your entire life. This light is the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Once again you begin to weep and wail for you realize how truly undeserving you are to even be in his presence. Jesus gently lifts you to your feet as a father lifts a child and asks, “My son, why are you crying?” The only words you are able to muster are “Forgive me! Forgive me!” Jesus simply smiles and replies with a melodious tone, “My child, due to your faith in me you have been cleansed of every impurity!” Shaking, you point to the sky where your entire life had been on display and attempt to mutter the word sin. Jesus simply takes your hand and says, “Child, due to your faith, I saw NOTHING! You have been washed clean by my blood! Well done good and faithful servant! Welcome home MY child!”
At that very moment the mighty gates open as the light of the world walks you into his kingdom.
