For those of you who have not looked at social media or the news recently, another mass shooting has blasted through the news.
This is a horrible tragedy and I call upon my fellow Christians to #prayforOrlando because the recovery will take time. If possible, be the hands and feet of Christ and help rebuild the broken community.
I’m not going to suggest one ultimate solution to ensure something like this never happens again. The issue of the recruitment of social media by ISIS is very complex and relies not only on the persuasive power of ISIS, but the mental state and beliefs of the people they are recruiting. That being said, I would like to make an observation:
Since the shooting, the social justice warriors (SJWs) wasted no time in standing on the graves of the murdered victims to campaign for harsher gun control laws on their social media pages until there are no more Tumblr blogs left to share concerning the subject.
First of all, to the SJWs who feel they are performing a public service, you ought to be ashamed of yourselves. You can’t wait for these families to mourn over their loss. You feel entitled enough to shove your views down the throats of everyone you can.
I have a few questions for you:
Why aren’t you going to Orlando? If you care so much about the community, why aren’t you hopping on the next available flight, the next available mission trip, or the next available tragedy relief team in order to help them? If you care so much about gun control, why aren’t you writing your Senators, Congressmen or the President? Why aren’t you joining the lobbyists in Washington? Why aren’t you donating money to a gun control cause or organization? Why aren’t you donating money to a tragedy relief organization?
I have seen no evidence of any of the above. Sharing a meme doesn’t seem to be helping anything, does it? What is your goal? To demonize conservatives? To demonize Muslims?
Gun control is not as simple as an issue to be solved with a meme. If we learned anything from San Bernadino, we learned that strict gun laws do not stop ISIS recruited individuals from carrying out ISIS’ holy war. In addition, Florida’s state law prohibits carrying a gun in any establishment that serves alcohol.
I recognize that nobody, save one person, is coming out and directly blaming conservatives, but if we need stricter gun laws, if the NRA is being blamed again, what is the implication we’re supposed to draw?
We know that the shooter took his guns into a gun-free zone (illegal), killed many people (illegal) and wounded many others (illegal). If gun laws stopped shooters, why do we still see mass shootings?
Spewing divisive, finger-pointing garbage isn’t solving the issue. I encourage you, reader, before you hop on every gun control, anti-NRA meme and Tumblr blog, think more deeply about the issues at hand. There is no easy answer.
