If you're a normal person, you're already obsessed with Hamilton, the American musical that is rocking Broadway and taking names.
However, as time passes, you can only listen to the original soundtrack so many times (that number is probably upwards of 2,000). Frankly, I've listened to the entirety of the soundtrack hundreds of times, and I've played a little more attention to "Satisfied" (clocking in, according to my iTunes, at 349 plays). But this past week, I discovered something that changed the game. Hamilton [in seven minutes] is the one-stop shop video for every Hamilton lover's obsessive compulsive tendencies to the soundtrack. While the smooth stylings of Lin-Manuel Miranda, Philippa Soo and Daveed Diggs are perfect, it is nice to hear the familiar words come out of a different mouth. RANGE a cappella has combined two and a half hours of pure Broadway magic into a seven minute medley, and while they leave out two of King George's songs and notably "A Farmer Refuted," the capture the essence of the most popular musical in the world beautifully. I also must add that the woman singing the piece from "Guns and Ships" absolutely slays the role, and a female Lafayette would be incredible to see on stage. Some of the staging in this video is awkward, but overall, it is an amazing effort by a little known a cappella group that captured the unwavering attention of this Hamilton lover and changed the way I listen to the soundtrack now.
So, enjoy [Hamilton in seven minutes]. It's the only Hamilton video you need to see this week.
Be sure to tune into the Tony Awards on June 12 to see the real life cast of Hamilton sweep the awards and make Andrew Lloyd Webber cry.
