The Older You Get, The Younger You Become

As you age, you start to miss the simplicity of childhood.

As you grow up, you start to appreciate the things that children have. You learn to miss nap time, and cartoons are even more addictive than they used to be. As I have grown up, I have realized how amazing childhood really was. Looking back, I remember parts of my childhood, and I realize how much I miss them. Here are just a few things you start to miss as you reach adulthood.

1. Saturday morning cartoons.

As you head off to work on a Saturday morning, you really miss getting to sleep in until 8 or 9 a.m., and then watching cartoons in your pajamas while you eat cereal. It may seem like a simple little thing, but you really miss it when you can't do it anymore.

2. Nap time.

When you're a little kid, you resist nap time. Then, around middle school and high school, you can't wait for nap time. Next, you reach college, and you don't have time for naps. So, you make time for naps. It may be as short as 10 minutes, but you make time to sleep. Even though it leaves you wanting more, you sleep for as long as your schedule will let you. You realize how lucky little kids are to have nap time every day.

3. Not having responsibilities.

As a kid, people don't expect you to call your doctor to schedule an appointment. As an adult, however, you don't have any choice. If you need to go to the doctor, you have to call them. If you are sick, you can't just ditch work. You have to go to work, make money and pay your bills. It sucks, but that's how life is.

4. Mommy and Daddy won't do everything for you.

They won't make your lunches every day, get you up on time or have dinner ready for you after work. If you want food, you better learn to cook. If you have to be up at a certain time, you need to set an alarm, and you can't hit the snooze button. They won't be there to make sure you get your work done. You have to take responsibility and become an adult.

5. You didn't have to pay bills.

However, as you grow up, you have to start paying for everything. If you want food, you need to buy groceries. Insurance? You better get it paid. A cell phone? If you can afford it, you're the one that has to pay for it. And if you want to get everything paid for, you have to work for it. No one is just going to hand you money for your bills.

While you may think being an adult will be fun, you're wrong. It's hard, stressful and takes a lot of work. However, we can't go back in time to when we were little. Most of us wish we could, but we can't. We can only go forward. However, with some hard work and trust, it'll all be worth it in the long run.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
