Using the influences of the movies crafted 10 years ago, Amanda Donaldson and Chris Ange created a Rom-Com late this spring for the Newman Club. Since then, the movie has been produced and is coming up on its debut this fall. Being that the premiere is coming up so soon, we sat down with these writers to answer a couple of questions about the movie.
Q1: Why a Newman movie?
Chris:
"To promote Newman, to help show college kids that getting involved on campus can be beneficial, and to hopefully make people feel more comfortable at the center."
Amanda:
"Why a Newman movie? Because why not bring back something that created such a powerful impact 10 years ago. The move making process itself gets members involved and interacting. Students' gifts are recognized and memories are made. At the end of the day, you've got a film to show that continues to bring others closer to our ministries."
Q2: What is the story line and how was it chosen?
Chris:
"It's about your typical college student who wants to get more out of college than just going to classes, and he finds that through peculiar situations and surprising love interests, he is able to find that friendship and fulfillment at the Newman Center."
Amanda:
"The story line was written under the influence of the passed Newman movies circa 2003, 2004, and 2005."
Q3: Did the movie making process prove to be as enjoyable as you thought? Do you think there will be more Newman Movies in the future?
Chris:
"Amanda can answer this one."
Amanda:
"The movie making process was as enjoyable as we thought it would be. Writing was a little slow at times, and it when it came down to editing, our chief editor Allie Livingston really had to get down and start wrapping up the movie. But overall, even the nitty gritty parts were fun. We are definitely making another movie next summer. We've learned so much as a film team, and we can't wait to use all constructive criticism from this movie for our next one."Another Newman Movie: The Next Generation is set to premiere August 26th at 7 P.M. at the Cowboy Catholic Newman Center on the McNeese State University campus (221 Aqua Dr.).
