I was really trying hard to avoid writing a politically-charged article. I'm sick of hearing about the election. I'm a political science major and I'm still sick of it.
Keep in mind, I did not feel obligated to write this because I am not happy with the results. Believe me, I'm not. The fact of the matter is, the events that have followed the election are simply unacceptable. I think this is due to one main issue.
The basis of American politics is changing. Whether we like it or not, our country is becoming more and more diverse. In all areas, there needs to be positive change. It's not about parties, it's not about loyalty and it's NOT about power.
It's hard to think about politics from a moral standpoint because of the media's interpretation of events. It's also hard to consider due to the options we were faced with this election. I'm not suggesting that any member of the government or position of power has to have a perfect, clear conscience.
Rather, I'm insinuating that the principles by which we base our government need to change. There are certain things that must evolve with the passing of time. It is inevitable that the more the world develops, the laws and amendments that originated with the constitution cannot apply anymore. This has been proven with the repeals and addition of some of these.
Bottom line, stop trying to make politics about parties. I wonder how productivity could be affected if people were to just take a step back and evaluate what they stand for, and what they think is morally correct.
The things I have seen in the days following the election have horrified me. The fact that people are fearful of their lives, or fearful of what they stand to lose, does not seem normal to me. Though I have only been alive to really remember two presidents, I have never witnessed such distress over an election.
Now, America needs to stand together. In order to institute change, hate cannot be fought with more hate. It may sound ridiculous, but the only way to progress is to work together through adversity in order to achieve acceptance and morality. I can only hope that this mindset overpowers the disappointment of our nation.
