The issues with the Stanford rape case.

Brock Turner. The BOY who raped an unconscious woman and got away with six month in jail. That BOY will never know what a man is because his father isn't one either. There are so many things wrong with this situation. Touching on a few won't change anything but it will at least educate.

1. Brock Turner

Brock Turner, a 20 year old BOY who thought it was okay to rape an unresponsive girl behind a dumpster. But he's a white, Stanford swimmer so he's entitled. He also can't eat ribs or steak because he can't recover from the "shame" of the "accident". Accident. Accident is spilling water on the floor. Rape is a choice. Drinking makes you do stupid things, yes. But drinking does not make you do evil things. Evil thoughts and actions are already in your head, the alcohol just makes you think those actions are acceptable.

2. Dan Turner

Dan Turner. The asshole of "father" to the boy that raped a woman. No wonder Brock doesn't know what a man really is, because his father isn't much of an example for him. He described this "accident" as "twenty minutes of action". He also begged the judge to decrease his sentence because "14 years in prison is a steep price to pay for twenty minutes of action for this twenty years of life". How can he look across the courtroom, look the victim in the eyes and imply that his son's time in prison is not worth the damage that his son cause this woman? Incredible.

3. The female figures in Brock's life

First of all his mother wrote a letter to the judge stating how proud she is to call him her son. You're proud of your rapist son? You can look him in the eyes and say you're proud of him? That's disgusting. She clearly didn't teach him how to treat a woman. We can't forget about Caroline Turner. Caroline is Brock's older sister. So how does she support him in this? "Goodbye to NCAA championships," his sister wrote to the judge. "Goodbye to the Olympics. Goodbye to becoming an orthopedic surgeon. Goodbye to life as he knew it." That's what she wrote in a letter to the judge. No remorse for the victim who is a woman just like her. Mind blowing.

4. Judge Aaron Persky

The judge that gave Brock six months (at maximum, he can get out at three with "good behavior") in jail as opposed to the deserved 14 years in prison. This "accident" would really have a "severe impact" on Turner. Really? On Turner? Judge Aaron Persky is an example of a reason why woman don't come forward when they are raped. Judges see Turner as a boy who got his titles, degrees, enrollment, and dream of being a US swimmer taken away. Unless you are a woman you have no idea what the victim got taken away.

"Judge Persky failed to see that the fact that Brock Turner is a white male star athlete at a prestigious university does not entitle him to leniency "

5. Cory Batey

Cory Batey was a Vanderbuilt football player. He was also convicted of rape, but instead of getting the luxurious six months in county jail, he got sentenced to a minimum of 15-25 years in prison (That's 3,000% longer than Turner's sentence). Why? They were both 20 and convicted of raping an unconscious woman. The only difference I see is the color of their skin. To me, Turner's sentence symbolizes the criminal justice system's double standard. Rape is rape no matter who you are.

I know this case is over and there's really not much we can do about it now. This case has been nagging at my heart and it truly saddens me. There's a lot more issues to this and a lot more I could say, but I think I'll leave it at that.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
