The Modern Republican Woman

She looks like you, talks like you, breathes like you. She is you. She is also a registered Republican and an advocate for woman's rights.

She shops in the same department stores and grocery stores as you. She wears jeans from J. Crew and tops from Target. She tries to watch the most unbiased news channels but always finds herself watching "FOX News" and reading The New York Times.

She'll vote in the 2016 election and she'll vote republican. She knows Carly Fiorina is badass but doesn't know how well she'll handle the stress that comes with running a country. She knows old, white men don't have all the answers to the country's worst problems, but she also knows Donald Trump could probably make the country a lot of money.

She believes in smaller government. She's a proponent of state-by-state laws but feels like certain, unalienable rights should be recognized nationally. She believes some programs should be cut and others should have a larger budget. She doesn't believe in universal healthcare but also thinks people should have access to basic tests and evaluations.

She's on birth control because she has wants and needs too. She also doesn't want to get pregnant by some guy in college. There's nothing wrong with waiting to have a child. She is pro-life. She believes a baby is created the moment of conception. However, she argues contraception isn't murder.

She believes there should be a bold line separating church and state. She knows all couples should receive the same federal rights. She doesn't believe her church should be forced to perform certain marriages.

She prays publically and privately. She doesn't push her beliefs down the throats of others but listens to opposing views with an open mind and heart because that is what her god asks of her.

She knows America was built by immigrants. She lives the "American Dream" every day and sees others who will never have the opportunities she has had. She also believes immigration laws need to be enforced as a form of national security.

She believes every American has the right to own, carry and use a firearm. But she still thinks of the 26 lives lost on December 14, 2012. She wants to see stronger regulations put into place but also wants people to use their firearms wisely for sport and protection.

She supports the troops but doesn't want to see them fighting in wars they aren't a part of. She knows the military should stay out of the Middle East but is also terrified her safety in her own country can be compromised one day.

As a child, she wasn't fed with a silver spoon. Her parents worked hard for their money and she believes everyone should. She sees how easy it can be to give up and live off of government funding. She doesn't give up. She works her ass off.

She understands her female counterparts are the minority in the corporate world. She doesn't use biology as a crutch. She knows she didn't get the raise because she didn't deserve it, not because she wears a skirt. She doesn't blame men for creating the glass ceiling, she just tells herself to keep working to shatter it.

She knows most feminists aren't radicals, but she's scared she'll have the stigma as someone who doesn't shave her legs. She'll stand behind anyone who needs support, but she doesn't always get the same. She's often called old-fashioned, blind to inequality and shaped by her parent's views.

But she's happy. She's strong. She's determined.

She walks among us in cities, suburbs and farm towns. She's on the college campus, city bus and the 46th floor of a skyscraper.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
