"The blues are because you're getting fat, and maybe it's been raining too long. You're just sad, that's all. The mean reds are horrible. Suddenly you're afraid and you don't know what you're afraid of. Do you ever get that feeling?" -Holly GoLightly, "Breakfast at Tiffany's"
Do you ever find yourself lost and confused with your life and yet have no clue of how to explain the feeling to someone else? You notice yourself feeling uncomfortable around others while looking for excuses to be alone. When you are alone, you start to ignore incoming texts, calls or messages online. No one is to get in. The isolation begins to seem normal and is a source of comfort in your daily routine. It all seems like a perfectly okay lifestyle until you realize you're absolutely alone. No one to tell exciting plans for the future to. No one to share the funniest part of your day with. It just hits you like a brick wall. You've been afraid and didn't quite know where the fear came from.
Was it the idea of commitment? Was it a self-confidence issue? Was it from the factors of risk that surround everyone? The undisclosed fear is so incredibly depressing. You want to fix it and feel free again, but you don't even know where to start. There's no one to talk to that will understand where all of this is coming from. How could you think someone you've distanced yourself from would ever understand? So instead of seeking guidance, you bury these thoughts. Pretend everything is normal, you'll be back in the swing of things in a day.
But that's just the issue; it doesn't stay away. The mean reds is a haunting feeling. It comes back into your life the second you start to doubt yourself or feel lousy from the doubt of others. It's a painful cycle that you think you're free of every time you get rid of it.
However, it's not impossible to get rid of it. Anyone can get rid of the mean reds with one and only one thing in life. Happiness. If you are truly and fully happy with everything going on in your life, you can remove the mean reds forever. Live a life that will make you smile with pride long into your old age. Make sure every day has no regrets because every day in life is a day worth living. If something goes incredibly wrong one day, take a deep breathe and remember that there is always tomorrow and move on to the next exciting thing. Yes, emotions are a crazy roller coaster that make some days feel like the end, but there is no reason to not live each moment to its fullest potential. If anything, it is most important to remember that there is only one you. The mean reds may feel awful now, but you'll see a rainbow soon again.
