The Mandela Effect: It may be something you have heard of or it may not be, but once you do hear about it, you may just be a skeptic for the rest of your life. This is something that I watched a short video on over the summer and ever since I have continued to do extensive research on because of how intrigued I was. Get ready, because I am about to blow your mind.
In 2010, a woman named Fiona Broome attended a convention where she spoke to a large group of people and they all had a vivid memory of Nelson Mandela’s death while being imprisoned in the 1980’s. This was strange because Nelson Mandela was still alive at the time. This got Fiona Broome thinking that this could not be just a coincidence. This strange encounter led to Fiona’s creation of the Mandela Effect.
The Mandela Effect occurs when a large group of people all share a similar memory about a past event that is not true or no longer exists. The Effect is based on the assumption that there are parallel universes.
Since then, there have been hundreds of different memories that large groups of people have shared but no longer exist for whatever reason. I’m going to share with you what I think are the five most popular and interesting Mandela Effects.
1. The Berenstain Bears
Berenstain? Don’t you mean Berenstein? Yeah, I thought the same thing. This one seems to be the most widely accepted Mandela Effect. Most people remember this bear family from their popular TV show and book series. The Berenstain Bears were a staple in many people’s childhood experiences so they are adamant that they were never called the Berenstain Bears.
2. Magic Mirror On The Wall
“Mirror Mirror On the Wall, Whose The Fairest of them All?” Nope, think again. In Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs, the Evil Queen looks into the mirror and says, “Magic mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?” This is another one that most people have no recollection of.
3. No, I Am Your Father
What we thought was the most famous movie quote of all time actually isn’t a quote at all. In the cult favorite, Star Wars, Darth Vader never said “Luke, I am your father.” Instead he said “No, I am your Father.” Does anyone remember this? I sure don’t.
4. We Are The Champions, Period.
At the end of our favorite Queen song, “We Are The Champions” many of us remember the song ending with the words “of the world,” but this also was never the case.
5. Jif Peanut Butter
There is no such thing as Jiffy Peanut Butter. It never existed. Even though most people recall buying Jiffy Peanut Butter instead of Jif Peanut Butter.
I may have only shared with you 5 examples of the Mandela Effect but there are thousands of examples. The scary part is, every time I go online people discover more and more effects that large groups of people swear happened or existed before. Obviously, take this with a grain of salt. There are some Mandela effects that I have read about that I do not remember differently than how the label or situation currently is. It’s terrifying to me to ponder that there are things in this world that I clearly remember that no longer exist anymore.
