Your boo boos were kissed by your K9 companion who would ultimately be in your senior pictures. You knew the day would come when you would have to leave your furry family members behind to pursue your higher education. You knew that you would shed a few tears, but you can't ever really prepare for moving to college as a dog lover.
You Will Miss Your Dogs More Than You Imagined
Chances are that your first lonely-freshman-crying-fit will be jumpstarted by imagining Fido sitting at home wondering when you will be back. The first morning that you don't have to lint roll your shirt before class will be a rough one. Finding dog hairs that somehow appear on your dorm room futon will bring you a ridiculous amount of joy. You will drop a piece of popcorn on the floor and yell, "Uh oh!" just to realize that there are no doggies on clean up duty. Living without dogs will be a lifestyle change.
You Will Just Want to Pet a Dog
Once your initial grief over leaving your own pups subsides, you will realize that there are other dogs in your new city. At first, you may be shy towards the dogs you see on the street. You will eventually lose all shame and chase dog owners down to say hi to their furry friends. As excited puppies lick your face and their owners discipline them, you will be quick to let them know that you are a college student who is missing the furry loves of her life back home and will take face licks from a puppy any day. You know you look crazy. You don't care.

You thought that you had watched every viral dog video on the internet over the summer? Wrong. You will ruthlessly google "cute dog videos" and sob over sweet stories of companionship. This will probably take a good chunk out of your study time. It is addictive. Watch responsibly.
You Go Home Much More Often Than Your Friends
"Didn't you just go home two weekends ago?"
"Yes, but Buddy doesn't know that I'm coming back."
Some friends just will not get it. But oh, the joy on your sweet doggies' faces when they see you for the first time in a month... it's all worth it.
