As the semester is winding down, college kids everywhere are dreaming of summer vacation and beaches and warm weather. But before we can totally dismiss all responsibility and spend hours laying in the sun drinking iced tea, we must first tackle the last few weeks of school. These seemingly never ending days are filled with studying for huge exams, writing term papers, and if you are any type of education major, most likely gluing pieces of colorful paper to a poster board. In these hectic weeks it is hard to remember why you are paying to go through this! But as I sit this morning with green tea in hand, with the window open. I have come to the conclusion that the only way to survive the rest of the semester is to find joy in the journey.
1. We get to learn here.
Oftentimes I think we take our education for granted. Lost in the shuffle of every day life is the very important meaning of why we are here. To obtain a degree to impact the world. What we learn here in college will help equip us to tackle the challenges ahead of us. To make positive impacts and be the change we wish to see in the communities around us. Whether we teach or work for a graphic designer or produce new inventions, we all have the opportunity to leave this world with a lasting impact.
2. Everyone wants summer
If someone told me that professors actually hated having summers off I probably would smack them upside the head, because that is the biggest lie I have ever heard. Just like us, professors are also dreaming of summer days. Maybe home with their kids or working on research that they love for next year. Even though you turn in your test or paper and are off for summer, they have to stick around longer to grade it. So give your prof a smile, work really hard on that project, and tell them happy summer. We are all in the same boat sailing slowly to summer vacay.
3. College is pretty cool
As much as we hate staying up all night working on homework, let’s face it college is pretty cool. We hang out with people we love, making memories and living life to the fullest. We are in a bittersweet time right now where we have freedom from our parents but not all of the responsibilities of the world yet.So remember where you are and smile.
Three weeks in the long run is a very minuscule amount of time in your life, even though right now it seems like it will never end. Stay strong and constantly seek to find joy in journey. Before you know it you will be counting down the days till you can see your friends again and live in a parent free house. Summer is almost here, so keep going, we are going to make it through!
