Let's be honest here, anyone who has struggled with weight loss knows that it is one of the hardest things to deal with in your life. However, I am here to tell you all that if I can do it, you can, too. I’m also here to tell you it doesn’t start with a number on a scale; it starts with acceptance. Acceptance is so powerful when it comes to weight loss and it is the only way you can keep you going. This is my story.
I have struggled with my weight ever since middle school and it has always bothered me, but I just pushed the feelings further and further away. Until one day in highschool I looked at the soda that I was about to drink and said, “enough is enough.” I have not had soda since that day and that was six years ago. That one small decision kick-started my journey to a better me. I started going to the gym every so often, but I knew if I really wanted to see results that it was time to buckle down and have discipline in the gym. Yes, it is very fortunate to be able to have the means to a personal trainer and I owe him a lot in the way I feel. Yes, it was extremely hard in the beginning and it felt as though my stomach was going to explode every workout. However as time went on, the workouts started to become enjoyable and they became easier. There is no better feeling in the world than the feeling after a workout.
Now that I am in college and have matured a bit I have realized that it is not all about how you look on the outside. Rather the most important factor is how you feel on the inside. If you feel you need to lose weight, do it for you and you only. Don’t do it for other people, don’t do it because you want those extra likes on Instagram, do it to make yourself feel good about yourself no matter what your goal weight is. To be quite honest, would I like to look a supermodel, yes, but I know that is just not realistic for me. However, I do know that I can become the best me that there is to offer. So when it comes down to it, your body should be in the shape of healthy, and forget the number on the scale. It is all a process and it will take time for you to be the best that you can be, but we are all in this together. I haven’t reached the finish line yet either, but the finish line is closer than you or I think. One day I will get there, but right now I am happy just the way I am.
