The Importance of having your own style

What does it mean to have your own style? For many people, going to the mall and grabbing that coat that you saw someone else wearing is the standard of how we shop. See it on someone else, like it, buy it. It’s just that simple if you’re not looking for anything more than just being in style. But starting your own trends, and adding your own taste to fashion trends that are already popular can be a dynamic way to set yourself apart from the rest of the crowd. There are plenty of ways to do just that, while also keeping it simple. We focused last on the importance of accessories to an overall wardrobe. Watches, hats, and purses are just a few items that can take some of the attention away from the average outfit, and oftentimes can lead to a compliment filled day. ...But accessories are just an addition to already having your own style.

Accessories almost mean nothing if you can’t coordinate them with a reasonable outfit. That’s not to say go out and buy the most expensive clothing available, but when you do shop for your base set of clothing (i.e. shirts, shoes, pants, leggings), try to find something that works with what you have physically, while also focusing on how your clothes make you feel mentally. Nothing is more disastrous than purchasing an outfit just to get home and feel like you’re forcing yourself to wear it. Also important is choosing base clothing that is multi-dimensional. This means different color shirts, leggings, gym shoes, or just about anything else you wear on an everyday basis that can be worn with more than one specific outfit. This will work wonders for a creative outfit later.

I personally believe you can NEVER have enough of any clothing as long as you have it in different styles and colors. Yes, some styles can be a bit excessive; but when it comes to shirts for men, and leggings for women specifically, think solid colors. Patterns are great and you can always stand out with patterns, but solid colors are the foundation of building your own style. With a solid color, the eye is forced to focus solely on one color, so that any other accessories you decide to incorporate stand out. Solid colors also bring out the patterns of accessories that can sometimes be ignored. Having a creative style to mix and match different colors is essential to standing out, but also not looking like a complete fool. Solid colors are a great way to do this as well. Mixing one solid color with another solid color is commonly known as color blocking. This can be a bold move if you’re not doing it correctly, but accessorize and you can turn two solid colors into the pattern of the year.

The easiest way to bring a color block outfit together is to have an accessory such as a hat, purse, or even a sports watch, that incorporates one of the colors you’re wearing. Even more unique is to buy accessories that incorporate multiple colors and building your outfit off of that; which will be discussed in a later article. In sum, the key to having a unique personal style is how you approach your look. Taking something that may seem plain such as a solid t-shirt, and turning that into a million dollar look simply by adding a matching watch. It may seem like a stretch, but many would be surprised at what people actually notice about what others are wearing. In building you own style, you can establish your uniqueness and in the process, you may find that people are more comfortable around you, and you are more comfortable with yourself.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
