As children, we are always taught to dream and reach for stars. We are taught to have an imagination so big that we think anything is possible. We want to be superheroes and princesses, and we want to believe that is realistic. However, as we grow up, our imaginations shrink, and what used to be our whole world and our happy place becomes only a memory and a silly dream. We sometimes lose our faith in the idea that the impossible does not exist and think that dreaming and imagining are only for little kids that have yet to experience the whirlwind of our world which we call life. Why does growing up and “life” stop us from imagining and dreaming? It doesn’t. It just forces to think about the future logically and realistically -- and there is nothing wrong with that. But in order to live life to the fullest and to stop ourselves from falling into the predictable trap that is society, we need to keep our dreams alive.
So make a bucket list.
Make a list full of adventures you want to have, and places and people you want to see. Fill your list with scary things and silly things. Things that you never thought to share. Share it with your friends and family, or keep it to yourself. Think of it as one more possible memory you can create with your best friend, your mom or dad, your husband or wife, or your kids. Write everything you would only do in your imagination down, and now that you’re older, try and find a way to do it. And if not, the list is still there as a reminder to continue having aspirations, not just career related ones, but personal ones too. Ones that open our eyes to new people and experiences. We need to be people who are limitless, and if we are, along the way we will find other dream seekers who will help us fuel our own imaginations. And then we will have more superheroes and princesses in this world than we ever thought possible.
