Perhaps one of the most valuable things I learned about in life is that you need to have balance. Without balance, everything is all over the place. Balance has helped me not only do well academically, but it has helped in all other parts of life. Let's talk about some of the problems you'll have without the proper balance.
If you focus too much on someone or something, you'll isolate other people or duties. Too much of anything is never a good thing. If you worry too much about work, how can you expect to maintain relationships or keep yourself stress free? Also, how can you expect to do a good job if you never give yourself a break from work? Make sure to spend just as much time working as you are relaxing, otherwise you'll become a workaholic. This also applies to spending too much time not working or getting something done. Don't waste too much time doing other things rather than accomplishing your tasks, otherwise you'll be bogged down later. Besides, even too much free time can get boring!
As I said before, this doesn't only apply to work or tasks, but also with people. Be sure to balance family, friends, romantic relationships, or other relationships as best as you can. Even though we're all busy, we need to make sure we spend enough time with every group. If you spend too much time with your friends, you might get bored or you might start annoying each other. Change it up! The same thing can be said if you reverse this; don't isolate your friends, family, or whomever because you may start to grow apart or they may even take offense. Make sure that you make time for everyone and are open to anything.
If I'm not getting through to you, think of any insanely successful person. They got that way because they balanced hard work, leisure, rest, and a ton of other things. They wouldn't be successful or famous if they only spent time with their spouse or if they never gave themselves a break. They understood that balancing everyone and everything is an important part of learning, growing, and making it big. If they can do it, so can you!
Now, let's see if I can balance homework, class, leisure, family and friends next semester!
