Many individuals think to themselves, “How can I forgive people who have hurt me?” Forgiveness is one of the most challenging things that humans will ever have to learn to do.
You should keep in mind that, when people hurt you, it has nothing to do with you, but everything to do with them. They might be going through a phase in their lives where things don’t make sense and they aren’t happy. When they are not happy with themselves they often hurt the people who they love the most. Some will regret the pain that they caused for others and others will just think that it’s a part of life.
When the pain has just been inflicted you will try to understand why this happened. You will constantly think about what you did wrong and what you could have done differently. However, don’t overthink the situation. You will only end up hurting yourself more than you already are hurting.
Being hurt by another individual is extremely painful and you will never truly understand why you were hurt. No matter how much you don't want to accept this, you need to learn that getting hurt is a part of life. Humans make mistakes and it will forever be a cycle of life.
Throughout your journey, you have to remember that you will hurt others as well. It may be unintentionally, but you will. It might be a friend, a family member, a significant other--whomever it is, someone will get hurt.
Forgiveness is a long process. It certainly cannot happen overnight. When you forgive others then you are one step ahead of them. You took the initiative to be the bigger person and to accept that the damage was done and that there isn’t anything that you can do about it.
Holding on to grudges only affects you in the long run. You might never want to cross paths with people who have hurt you and that is completely okay. Therefore, make sure to forgive the people who have inflicted pain in your life because forgiving others can help mend your brokenness.
This is a process, but it is not impossible. You will live and you will meet other people in your life who are worth it. People come into your life to teach you a lesson and they hurt you in order for you to find better people to help you grow as an individual.
In order to move on with your life and become a happy individual again you need to learn to love yourself. Loving yourself will take you to places that you have never imagined.
Remember, forgiveness is a journey.
Forgiveness starts with you and only you.
