This past weekend I went to the mall with my sister and overheard a couple guys behind us talking about girls and the different excuses they give as to why they don't want to date. "I just got out of a bad relationship," "I'm working on being more independent", and their favorite, which was "I'm focusing on my career." I didn't really think anything of the conversation until the last excuse they mentioned; I'm focusing on my career. What's wrong with wanting to focus on your career? I tell people that all the time in conversations because it isn't just an excuse, it's the truth and I'm proud of that. I've worked very hard and come a long way to get to where I am today with my major, my internship, and my plans for the future.
That's not to say that I'm going to work 24/7 or let my career take over my whole life, I will still date if I want to but I just plan on being a lot more selective about how frequently I go on dates and who I go on them with. However, these days people don't even call them dates they ask if you want to "hang out" and they ask you from a social media direct message, not even in person. I don't have any interest in a guy who can't come up to me and talk to me in person. I don't want someone to hide behind a computer screen or act like they don't care that much if I say I want to hang out or not. I want someone who's going to ask me if I want to go on a date and acts like they want to spend time with me. Even then, if I say I'm focusing on my career I am 100% telling you the truth.
I look at it from the saying "don't put all your eggs in one basket." Let's say I'm holding a basket and a guy I've just met is holding another basket, which one will I be using to put all my priorities and effort in? Obviously mine, because I trust myself and know that I can make things happen for myself and pursue a career in something I truly love and will always enjoy.
I'm not at all worried about my future because I know that no matter what happens, I will never let myself down and I will always work my hardest to achieve greatness and happiness in my life and as long as I'm doing that and focused on what's most important, everything else will come in time.
