And the way it affects us...

The Horrors of Social Media

Social Media has been around for as long as I can remember. From Facebook to Instagram, these “social” apps have taken this world by storm. If you don’t have all of them, you have at least one of them. The point of this article is not to steer you away from any of these apps but to make the horrors of social media known.

Let’s start with Facebook. With Facebook, we can hide behind a screen and type an encouraging “status” or one that brings people down. Facebook is one of the top, if not the top social media app for cyberbullying. People hide behind their screens and harass/embarrass others. According to NVEEE.org, over 1 million CHILDREN were cyberbullied within the past year on Facebook. That statistic bothered me and I hope it bothers you too. I hope it bothers us all enough that we can take a stand against this. Take a stand against cyberbullying on Facebook. Now I am not saying everything on Facebook is bad because it’s not but cyberbullying is real and it happens everywhere. Even on Facebook. Think before you post a status. Is it going to bring someone up or bring them down?

Instagram…oh Instagram. If you have an Instagram, you know how it works. You have your own page that you post whatever pictures you want to for all of your friends to see. You’re probably thinking “How is Instagram bad?” Well…it can be. So many girls follow other girls that they think are prettier than them so they try and take the best selfies and put just the right filter on it to make themselves look better. I’m one of those girls. If you are too, you’re not alone. Girls, you are beautiful just the way you are and you are a daughter of the King. Don’t let a filter ruin your beauty! I don’t know about boys because I’m not one but they may do it to when it comes to impressing girls. I don’t know that though. Girls are deleting their selfies and putting tons of makeup on and using filters to look better. To me, that’s one of the horrors of social media. We are trying to be the way the world wants us to be instead of who God created us to be. Be YOU.

Social Media is a “world” that can make you or break you and it often breaks people. PLEASE don’t let social media apps determine who you are. God created you on purpose, for a purpose so don’t allow social media to influence you. Post whatever picture you want on Instagram and be confident in who you are and don’t let mean people bother you. Social Media should be a place where we can connect with friends but sadly it’s turning into something much worse and I hope and pray that the horrors of social media will cease. You are a child of the King and don’t let anyone treat you other than that and don’t let a social media app treat you any less than that. Stay happy, friends!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
