Christmas is my favorite time of year. The trees, lights, and spirit just makes my heart feel so warm. But stepping outside or doing something festive slowly brings sadness back into my heart. Having a major holiday, such as Christmas, sucks without having your significant other by your side. No one to cuddle and watch movies with, no one to go on winter-y dates with, no one to watch the snow fall with. This will be my first Christmas without my other half, and it's really hitting home.

Being a military spouse/significant other or a "MilSo", has it's ups and downs, and finding out your other half can't come home is definitely a downer. He's never not been home for Christmas. There are girls (and guys), who have it much worse, who's loves are deployed and won't be coming home til the new year. But, my heart is heavy with thoughts of a Christmas without him, and I pray to God, hoping he will answer my prayers.

Never forget, as you gather with your families this holiday season, that not every family is complete. Some are missing fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters, and significant others this year. Appreciate the time you have, and pray for those who can't be together. And my love, if you're reading this, I love you more than I can express, come home soon.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
