October is finally here, which means that I have entered full holiday season mode. The next three months are what I consider to be the most festive months of the entire year. With Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and all of the delightful seasonal activities in between, there is an abundance of fun things to do. Below are some of my personal favorites:
1. Shopping for Halloween costumes
Halloween is seriously one of my favorite holidays. Ever since I was a child, my mother would help me dress up as whatever my little heart desired to be that year. She formulated the perfect DIY costumes before stores even thought to create them. Since then, I have forever been drawn to Halloween stores and the potential that they hold each year.
2. Baking autumnal foods
I may not be a great cook, but I am very good at baking. Autumn brought scents of cinnamon, apple, caramel, and various spices. One of my favorite things to do is breaking out one of my mom’s recipe books and baking a delicious fall dessert.
3. Curling up with a hot drink
Gray, rainy days are the best for curling up with a warm blanket, a hot cup of apple cider or tea, and watching a movie.
4. Eating everything on Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is the best because it’s an excuse to eat everything under the sun. I can’t even decide what my favorite holiday food is, it’s like asking a mother to pick her favorite child.
5. Black Friday shopping
There’s something exhilarating about going shopping for great deals while wearing sweatpants in the middle of the night. I love to stock up on coffee, gather my coupons, and hit the mall.
6. Picking out a Christmas tree
This was literally one of my favorite things about the holiday season, my family and I go shopping for our tree the day after Thanksgiving and I always look forward to finding the perfect one.
7. Decorating for Christmas
Christmas has always been a magical time for me, so of course I love decorating for it. Putting on a festive sweater, making a hot cup of holiday tea, and breaking out all of the decorations to put around the house makes my heart insanely happy.
8. Listening to Christmas music
I’m quite picky about my Christmas music, to be completely honest. I grew up listening to vintage artists like Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, etc. Once Thanksgiving is over, the only thing I listen to is Christmas music until mid-January.
9. Shopping for gifts
I knew that I was growing up when I got more excited to buy gifts for other people than I was to receive gifts. Watching the people I love open something that I got and/or made for them warms my heart.
10. Celebrating Christmas
My family has a ton of Christmas traditions, all of which I love dearly. Even though I’ve gotten older, the magic of the day still hasn’t gone away.
The holiday season has arrived and so has my enthusiasm.
