The holiday season is a busy one for all of us. Trying to juggle class, social life and then enjoying some rest and respite back home with family and friends is all part of the coming holidays. If you're anything like me, you wait until the last minute to do most of what needs to get done sooner rather than later. This includes buying presents for friends and family. In the season of giving, it is crucial to put some thought and/or effort into gift giving.
No matter what holiday you celebrate, exchanging gifts is always fun, and it is just as nice to give as it is to receive. Seeing someone happy and excited upon opening your present is simply a wonderful thing. The only difficult part is finding the right gifts for the right people.
There are many different ways to go about gift giving. One crucial rule to abide by is: expensive gifts are not always the best gifts. As college students, we don't exactly have a lot of disposable income to spend on exorbitant presents. As much as I would love to be able to buy my dad his dream car or something else ridiculously expensive, that is simply not an option. You also don't want to give someone the same thing every year. Mix it up and surprise someone with something they didn't expect.
If you have a lot of different people to buy presents for, I suggest the homemade route. Everyone enjoys getting something heartfelt and personal. You don't have to be too crafty or creative to make a great gift. There are ideas all over the Internet, and many people would appreciate a meaningful gift over a purchased present anyway. The key is to simply put some thought and effort into your gift. Something as basic as a homemade card can bring a lot of happiness to the recipient. Take the time to create or write something that tells the people in your life just how much they mean to you. I know I have always preferred sentimental gifts.
The holidays are a perfect time to showcase how well you know the important people in your life. Have you been paying attention when your family members mention things they want throughout the year? Is there a memory or event to incorporate into a gift? Show how well you know and care about people by buying, making or finding that perfect gift.
You can receive and open gifts all day, but that will never make you feel the way you do when you put a smile on someone else's face. Giving a gift is just as much a treat as getting one. Make this holiday one to remember as you gather together and exchange gifts. This time of year is a favorite for many, so enjoy it at every opportunity because before you know it, it's over.
