The Grammys Are Here: Who Will Win?

The best predictions for the 2016 Grammy Awards.

The Grammys Are Here: Who Will Win?
http://www.buzzfeed.com/tanyachen/reasons-the-grammys-were-just-the-jay-z-and-beyonce-show

I’m going to preamble this real quick..if you’re expecting to find my predictions on nominations like “Best Contemporary Christian Music Album” or “Best Tropical Latin Album”… just stop reading this now.

This past year has a been huge for the music industry. Adele has returned from whatever black hole her boyfriend and baby sucked her into, J-Biebs has reinvented himself, turning “nonbeliebers” into “goddamnit, ill admit it I'm a belieber,” Bruno Mars has made all of us radio listeners want to punch through the car window if we hear his song one more time and Taylor Swift has…well somehow created another platinum album that will have her juggling Grammy's again.

The performers this year cover a huge variety of genres and tributes. I’m most excited to see Adele, Justin Beiber with Diplo and Skrillex, RiRi, Alabama Shakes and, of course, Pitbull (just kidding...how is he still even being invited to the Grammys?).

Here are my predictions of 2016 Grammys:

Album of the Year:

What should win: The Weeknd, "Beauty Behind the Madness"

What will win: Taylor Swift, "1989"

"Beauty Behind the Madness" is an absolute art piece with unbeatable collaborations. Unfortunately, due to the fame and hype around Taylor Swift, I think she will take home the Grammy.

Record of the Year:

What should win: The Weeknd, "Can’t Feel My Face"

What will win: Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars "Uptown Funk"

Again, "Can’t Feel My Face" is a beautiful song that can never get old, as opposed to Bruno Mars screaming two words the whole song.

Song of the Year:

What should win: Kendrick Lamar, "Alright"

What will win: Kendrick Lamar, "Alright"

Kendrick Lamar deserves to and will most likely take home this award. Not only should he, for the amazing song, but the music video that goes with it.

Best New Artist:

What should win: James Bay

Who will win: Meghan Trainor

To me, Meghan Trainor has some catchy tunes, but that’s all she is. She is a radio one-year-hit wonder, I promise.

Best Solo Performance

What should win: Ed Sheeran, "Thinking Out Loud"

What will win: Taylor Swift, "Blank Space"

Ed Sheeran is so underrated. That isn’t a hopeless romantic girl saying that either. He is such a talented performer and even if this song isn’t his best, it’s damn good and he deserves the appreciation.

Best Duo/Group Performance

What should win: Wiz Khalifa ft. Charlie Puth, "See You Again"

What will win: Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars, "Uptown Funk"

Two people I never thought would or could ever do a collaboration together, let alone make it sound that beautiful, made “See You Again” one of the biggest songs of the year. I think they deserve this award but I see it going to Uptown Funk based off the popularity and how long it stayed relevant for.

Best Pop Vocal Album

What should win: Taylor Swift, "1989"

What will win: Taylor Swift, "1989"

Even if you don’t like Taylor, there is no way you don’t find that album catchy. And compared to the other nominees, Taylor’s album has had the biggest impact on her fan base, record sales and respected collaborations.

Best Dance Recording

What should win: U & I, "Runaway"

What will win: Skrillex and Diplo ft. Justin Bieber, "Where Are Ü Now"

Although Where Are Ü Now was on repeat for me when first released, I think Runaway deserves a “best dance recording” award. It is definitely better for a rave setting.

Best Dance/Electronic Album:

What should win: Caracal, "Disclosure"

What will win: Skrillex and Diplo, "Skrillex and Diplo Present Jack Ü"

Disclosure is one of the best electronic artists of our time, I believe, but due to the popularity of this year’s albums, I think Skrillex and Diplo will take it.

Best Rock Performance:

What should win: Elle King, "Exs and Ohs"

What will win: Elle King, "Exs and Ohs"

I will be so upset if this award doesn’t go to her. I’m surprised she isn’t up for Best New Artist. Her music is great and this song especially can't get old.

Best Rap Performance:

What should win: Kanye West, "All Day"

What will win: Kendrick Lamar, "All Right"

A Ye-bias answer, but I think if you think about performance the broad spectrum, Kanye really deserves this award. Over the summer, Kanye released an art exhibit at LACMA showing his "All Day/I Feel Like That" video and it was the amazing performance that the song deserved. Yes, Kendrick’s music video for "Alright" was incredible but then you can argue that anyone can throw some effects and cool imagery into a music video. No discredit, just pointing out facts.

Best Rap/Sun Collaboration:

What should win: Big Sean ft. Kanye West & John Legend, "One Man Can Change The World"

What will win: Big Sean ft. Kanye West & John Legend, "One Man Can Change The World"

This amazing collaboration is hard to hate. The message of the song adds a whole other level of worthiness.

Best Rap Song

What should win: Kanye West, "All Day"

What will win: Kendrick Lamar, "Alright"

I feel like I’ve made my case here.

Best Rap Album

What should win: Way too hard to answer. I would fully support Drake, Kendrick and J. Cole.

What will win: Kendrick Lamar

I swear to god if Nicki Minaj wins this award, the Grammy’s will be dead to me.

Happy Grammys!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
