The "Pros" And "Cons" Of Having A Summer Job

Summertime is one of the best times of the year. As a college kid, I get to enjoy the glorious three to four months we have off just to enjoy the sweet radiance of the sun, being able to hang out with my hometown friends whenever I want/can, swimming, the late nights out having fun and being young. We don’t have to worry about homework, exams or anything school related until the dreaded month of August. It seems like we all just get to chill and relax and have the times of our lives. However, there can be one thing that stands in the way of you and having an incredible summer of smiles, laughter and fun. A summer job.

“Why this? Why, oh why do I need a job?! I just want to have fun this summer!” you might say. All you want to do is just have no responsibilities and make memories while you can before you have to go back to school once again in the fall. Having a job during the summer can have its pros and cons, and some of those are;

1. Money.

You get to make your own money and spend it how you please, whether it be tickets to a concert, a new pair of shoes, or maybe bills and loans for college. Everyone loves to make money.

2. Making/Meeting New Friends.

Whether it be getting a new summer job or rejoining the old job you had before college, you get to catch up with your old co-workers who have become your friends over time and you get to make new friends during the short time you are there as well!

3. Job Experience.

In having a summer job, you can learn about new things and gain job experience along the way for future reference. You have more opportunities to open up new doors and acquire knowledge about things you may have never known before.

4. Life Skills.

With summer jobs, we obtain life skills we are able to use all throughout your life. We learn how to deal with certain issues or problems, learn how to have time-management skills, learn about responsibility and know the importance of money and its value, etc.

But with the goods, comes the bads.

5. No Free Time.

Because of this summer job, you may or may not have as much free time as you may like to spend with your friends and family.

6."Imagination."

When you’re at your job, you’re thinking about being with friends or being someplace else, which can be a bummer. And that is always such a tease because, of course, you rather be outside doing something fun with your friends rather than doing actual "work."

7. Physical Activity, Ew.

No matter what job you’re doing, you’re always doing something physical. But in all honesty, you know you just want to be sitting at home watching Netflix and pigging out on junk food.

8. Those Dang Uniforms I Tell Yah.

Uniforms are such a pain. It could either be a hot dog costume or specific clothes you have to wear every single day, it is just annoying and you rather just wear your own summer time clothes to feel relaxed and comfortable throughout the day.

And to save the best for last...

9. Adulting/"Growing Up."

After having this summer job, you are learning how to be an adult and in other words, “grow up.” This can both be a pro and con. We all want to stay kids forever and not take on the responsibilities of the world and yet, we get a better understanding on a whole new level of what it’s like to become an adult.

Just remember, a summer job is a great experience. But just know it won’t last forever so have fun with it and the fall semester will be upon you soon!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
