Everyone has those days when it feels like nothing is going your way. You wake up late and rush to class. You stop to grab a coffee and it spills all over you. You get a bad grade on your midterm. It feels like the whole world is against you. It is in these moments when it is hard to keep up a positive attitude. However, it is in these moments when a positive attitude is most important.
As a college student it can be hard to remember that we have so much life ahead of us and not every thing is the end of the world. We put so much pressure on ourselves to be perfect, but we have to remember that we are human. Something that I always try to remember when I am feeling down is that the good days pass and the bad days pass. Nothing is forever.
Try to remember that every experience can teach you a lesson. Sometimes your worst days can teach you a really important lesson. Life is not going to be perfect but we still have so much to be thankful for. Yes, there will always be someone who has more than you, but there is also someone who will always have less than you. Do you have a roof over your head? Do you have food in your stomach and clothes on your body? These are things that we are so fortunate to have and we sometimes forget how lucky we are.
Next time you find yourself getting into a rut, try to do things to get your mind off of it. Go for a run, meditate, put on your favorite Netflix show, go get that ice cream sundae, and try and remember all the positives in your life. If you think about it hard enough, I would bet that the positives outweigh the negatives. A bad day does not mean a bad life. A bad day is just that: one day. Remember that we are the only ones who are in charge of our thoughts. We have the power to get rid of those negative thoughts and switch them with positive thoughts. We have the power to wake up every morning and chose if we are going to make today a positive one. So tomorrow when you wake up, choose to have a positive day and choose to help those who might be having a bad day.
