Hello dear,
I must admit, I'm still learning.
I do not think I am beautiful. My whole life I have quietly questioned my worth, presence and beauty. It's a normal thing for girls, 'they' say. It happens to everyone. But for some reason, it seems more powerful for you and I. It seems like we can't grow past this. We can't pull our selves out of this ugly, ugly train of thought.
I would love to say I have an overabundance of knowledge and advice, but I don't. I'm right there with you, girl! In fact, I'm your co-pilot in this twisted mindset. No matter how many times we are told we are beautiful it doesn't matter. We don't care.
I have some things I wish I would accept myself. But if I cannot, I hope you will before "I'm not beautiful" crosses your mind.
You're wrong. You're beautiful. You're beautiful. YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!
You can wear whatever you want. If you have days like me you'll look in the mirror, pull a face that extenuates all your flaws and decide today's another one of those days. Another one of those days you choose to wear black instead of bright yellow or hot pink because you just want to blend in and fade into the walls. You'll have these days. But, I challenge you! Wear yellow bright as the sun because that's the color that makes you happy. Wear blue because it makes your eyes look more intense. Wear all orange because it's fun. Why not?
Fake it 'till you make it, girl! Confidence is all an illusion, and if you do not believe go talk to the most confident person you know. Get to know them. They have insecurities and things they are unhappy with just like you! But still, they are confident! Now, I'm not saying fake smiles, no ma'am! I'm saying even when you feel too ugly to leave your apartment, do it. Once you're out, and with friends your mindset will shift and your insecurities will begin to not matter as much.
People remember how you treat them, not if you have a double chin or not. No one cares about how you look if you treat them with authentic love and friendship. Oftentimes, your outside matches your inside. If you exude love and kindness your beautiful soul will glow through, no matter how much you are fed the lie that you are ugly. In the end, no one will remember the stain on your shirt, the pudge of your tummy or your poking ribs.
"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind."
Though I cannot promise you I am going to take this advice, I hope you will. As you wake up in the morning or go to bed at night, I hope you practice radical self-love. You are a gift. You are the future. Though it may seem difficult now, you have a purpose and you are going to do great things. You are enough. You are loved. You are beautiful.
With Love,
Your stubborn Soul-Sister
