As you read the title of this article, I’m willing to bet that you thought of one or two specific people in your life. These people are one of a kind and simply irreplaceable. Your go-to, day one, or other-half. A lot of the time they go unrecognized. With that being said, here’s to you, friend:
I am thankful for your presence in my life and the joy you bring to it. You were a stranger at first, but we know that didn’t last too long. Slowly, the heart-to-hearts became the clarifying definition that you had no other choice than to be by my side. The information is certainly worthy of blackmail and humiliation, but that comes with the unspoken territory. Your ability to listen without judgement is remarkable. The times I rant about school, you tell me I’m intelligent and four years will go by fast. Family, you tell me that I love them and they will always want the best for me. Boys, you tell me they’re stupid and if they make me cry they are not worth my time. Friends, the ones that want to be in your life, will be.
You get me and my quirks that would send others away. You know just when to leave me be to get myself together. As well as the times I need you to tell me to figure myself out. You know I don’t get emotional, but when I do, you let me cry and scream until there’s nothing left to be upset about. When I went on that first date, you knew I really liked him, so there was a pep-talk waiting for me. When you go shopping, you know we have similar styles, therefore, you’re essentially buying for two. You want to go lunch, you know I will never turn that invitation down. We’re getting ready for a night in town, you know you’re going to be doing my hair and make-up. You know when I need a night in to chill. You know I hate scary movies, so they’re not even an option anymore. You ask if I want ice cream just to see my reaction because you know it will be a forever yes. When our other friends want to change the plans, you know my opinion before you look at my face. If I’m late for a dinner date, there’s a glass waiting for me because you know just where to start.
Thank you for taking the time to know what you know. You make my life better every single day. Your presence in the world is like no other. I strive to be your person, like you are mine. And just remember, you’re stuck with me because you know too much.
