They say that if you put a goldfish into a bigger bowl, it will grow bigger than it ever was before, adjusting to its new space. When you come from high school to college, your little goldfish of friends grows with your new environment. You have so many opportunities to meet new friends of different backgrounds from hundreds and thousands of different places. Such diversity can cause you to have friends whose comradery is occasional or situational, and hence, here are the five types of friends you’ll have in college.
Passerby Acquaintances

The people that you meet once your freshman year at orientation and then never talk to again. Quaint yet awkward grins in their direction are both permitted and expected.
Conversation with such people will be brief, if at all.
Masters of Mayhem

You’ll probably
go do crazy things with these friends.
Like stay up all night doing nothing and everything all at once. You’ll get tattoos together, and you won’t speak of such things to your parents, not because you’re ashamed of them, but because they’ll be ashamed of you. But when you hang out with these mischievous friends on the weekend, the nights will be long and the mornings will be fast.
Buddies With The Same Beliefs

These are the friends that you have bonded with on the basis of personal beliefs or religion in some way or another. These will be the friends to spiritually fulfill you, help you find your own path regarding faith, whether that is growing deeper in the religion you grew up in or introducing you to new ideas. Either way, these are the people who will help water your soul.
Classmates

You showed up on the first day of class and plopped yourself in the midst of them, and now all you basically do when you walk in is bitch about the homework. These are the
bros you can count on to provide you with a summary of the readings that you didn’t have time to do. Your classmates are the ones that you’ll inevitably stay up until 3am on a Wednesday with, cramming for that one exam or practicing for that presentation.
The Like-minded

Friends that transcend all the previously mentioned categories fall into this one. These are the people that you just “click” with. You’re not sure why, at first, but it is entirely due to the fact that their mindsets are similar to yours. You’ve searched for such people your entire life. You’ve found them in people who maybe have read the same
books or like the same music or play the same sport, or what have you. But here they are, the like-minded.
You will, of course, meet many different types of friends in college, but as a whole, these are the ones that you may very well have. Each individual can and will impact your life and your experience.
