5 Friends You'll Meet During Recruitment

It will be one of the best and worst weeks of your life: sorority recruitment. It's filled with craziness, exhaustion and fun, and will likely be the place where you meet some of your future best friends. It'll seem like you met 500 different girls each day by the end of of it (thank goodness everyone was wearing name tags). Through it all, here are five amazing girls that you're bound to become friends with:

1. Miss All-American

She's super friendly, so funny, extremely smart and athletic, and she's won beauty pageants? This girl doesn't even seem real, but when she sits down next to you while waiting for your first Open House party, you realize she's actually the sweetest person ever. She's the type of girl who you feel like you've already known your entire life and you will absolutely DIE on Bid Day if you don't get the same house as her. You're that good friends already. This is the type of girl that, from afar, seems too good to be true, but you better believe she is honest-to-goodness a sweet all-American girl.

2. The World Traveler

You can already tell by her jewelry on Philanthropy Day that this girl has been to some amazing places. So it's no surprise that she talks about the summer trips she had to Bali, India, New York, London and Africa where she explored the best shops and markets, and saw the most exotic things. She's had the summer of your dreams, and she can't wait to tell you all about it between rush parties. She also happens to be really cool. The best part is that she is excited about seeing so many new places, and duh, if you rush the same house you'll go on these adventures together!

3. The Comedian

She's the girl making all the Recruitment Counselors crack up while they're busy trying to keep you from getting lost on Greek Row. This is the girl everyone wants to sit next to because she's always cracking jokes and making rush seem like fun. She's not stressed out about where she'll be on Preference Night because she's the most carefree girl in the world. She know's that wherever she ends up, it'll be a ball, and you're hoping it's in the same house as you.

4. The Ultra Legacy

Mom was a Gamma Phi, aunt was a Delta Zeta, grandma was president of Zeta Nationals and two of her cousins were in Pi Phi. This girl knows what seems like dozens of girls in every house, each greeting her like a long-lost sister (who knows, maybe they are). She's beautiful, smart and sweet, and would fit in no matter where she pledged. And for that reason everyone is fighting over her like crazy. This girl has more options than anyone else, but that doesn't make recruitment any easier for her. She still has to go through all the same parties as you and find her true home.

5. The Insta Famous

You notice her at the first meeting before Open House and wrack your memory to come up with where you know her from. Then it hits you: You stalked her to an unbelievable degree over the summer! Several times on Instagram you noticed this gorgeous girl posing with your school sign so you decided to creep. Obviously you weren't the only one because she has over 45.7k followers. Maybe she was a former "cheerlebrity," but whatever the reason, you feel like you already know her. Don't be intimidated by her at all. She's coming to a new school the same as you, to find a great sorority to join and make new friends along the way.

Of the many, many girls you will meet throughout recruitment week, try to keep an open mind. Everyone is putting on the best version of themselves, so it can be easy to be intimidated. But everyone is the same, going through recruitment at a new school, trying to find the best fit for them. Just remember that a week or so from now they could be your new sisters, and you'll laugh at the first impressions you had, and how crazy it is to think that you haven't always been best friends.

Happy recruitment, ya'll!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
