For those of us who might need a little extra (liquid) courage to get through the stress of it all...

So this week I started my first day of classes at Curtin University in Perth, Australia. The social aspect of starting at a new school is daunting, even back home in the States, so imagine that feeling in an unfamiliar country. I don't know what's socially acceptable yet. I don't know how classes function. I don't know any of the buildings or the professors. I walked past the same group of people down the same hallway for ten minutes before I finally found my classroom on the first day of creative writing. The end of the week had me feeling totally exasperated. All I wanted to do was sit down with a bottle of chardonnay and binge watch some comedy television. Luckily, I have Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin from Grace and Frankie to help me illustrate a little better for you all what my first day at Australian university felt like.

1. Giving Yourself That Last Minute Pep Talk Before Heading Out The Door

2. The Frustration Of Getting Lost But Being Too Stubborn To Ask For Help

3. Participating In The Awkward, Forced Small Talk That Ensues Between All Of The Anxious People Who Got To Class Way Too Early

4. When The Professor Finally Walks In And You Have To Put Away Your Phone That You've Been Furiously Pinteresting On To Avoid Any Further Social Interaction

5. Clinging Desperately To The Other Quiet, Introverted People In The Room When You Have To "Get In Groups"

6. Feeling Like A Total Bad Ass After Saying Something Intelligent In Class

7. Sitting Alone In The Library Watching Old Friends Catch Up, Missing Your Homies Real Bad But Trying To Play It Cool

8. Getting To Your Room After A Long Day And Looking At Your Reading List

9. Defending Your Coolness To Yourself After A Day Of Feeling Socially Insecure

10. Feeling Like, "Why The Hell Did I Think Going Here Was A Good Idea?"

11. Remembering That You're A Strong, Independent Woman Who's Going To Slay The Semester

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
