The Extinction Of Emotion

Love is becoming extinct and people are forgetting what the word itself means.

I have witnessed a lot in my life and at this point I cannot determine whether or not I believe in love.

The word love is simply tossed around too much in modern times and I am not even sure if the people who use it so loosely understand the true definition either.

Being a high school student, it is not hard to believe that in the span of a school day I hear couples exchange the word 'love' like it is loose change. Not to mention most of them find themselves falling in love every two months. I was taught that love meant so much more than that but no one seems to use it in the proper context anymore.

Maybe I am just a cynical fatalist, it would not be hard to believe.

I truly want to believe in love, soul mates, the whole nine yards, but nothing and no one has convinced me in any of them.

A happy marriage is something I have never been able to witness, my parents were falling apart before I even had a chance to see them together.

It seems ridiculous that a teenage girl doesn't believe in love, and I believe in familial love and love between friends. Love of a romantic kind, is the type whose existence I tend to doubt.

Speaking from experience, it seems to me that guys my age only want one thing and they are only infatuated with you until they get it. People confuse love with desire.

Desire is volatile. Desire has no qualms about hurting those around it as long as the urge is filled. It is egocentric and comes and goes like the wind. Desire is foolish and has only ill intent.

Love would never hurt anyone if it had the choice. Love is gentle and kind; it is the eye of the hurricane. It lingers with you and never leaves you behind. It is as rare as a rose in a field of daisies, it deserves to be cherished but hardly ever is.

People would rather take what they can get, than wait for their perfect rose to bloom.

Love has been disregarded to the point of near extinction. It is not something that can be mimicked, love doesn't have an appearance. It is a feeling and it is something you must experience to even know of it's wondrous existence.

If you have experienced such a thing, do not let it go so thoughtlessly. It is something to be treasured and held in the highest regard.

Love comes in many forms but the shockwaves it sends through you remain the same.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
