We Are In The Era Of College Students Feeling Scared

Soon, high school seniors will launch into a new life. For many seniors, that life is is called "college," known as a place to accomplish many dreams. However, this may not be the case anymore. The reality is college students pay thousands of dollars to learn and have a great experience, but not feel safe. Unfortunately, students who have career goals, always have a smile on their face, helped many people, and impacted someone's life end up being a victim of sexual assaults, robbery, homicide and such acts. We really can't say the problem is in gun control laws because a good portion of victims aren't always taken by gun violence. The senior’s parents of where they would send off their children, they would probably say to a safe school (a school that doesn't have crime history).

But as for the current students, let’s imagine how safe each one of us would feel if we had a bodyguard on normal school day.

In classrooms, there would be an empty seat behind each student because that’s where the bodyguard would sit. Of course if the professor would pass papers, the bodyguards would have to scan it before it gets to the student.

When you pass by the quad from one class to another and you run by your friends, your bodyguard will check their background history before you can high five them.

When you eat lunch with your friends and your bodyguard are sitting behind you, you whisper whenever you talk about your crush and share a secret.

And when it is time to sleep, your bodyguard will be running around the room checking every window and door every minute to make sure no one is there.

After what happened with the freshman student at the University of Texas in Austin, we all can admit that we [students] are becoming more careful. Our parents back home watch the news and call us every night and then to make sure we are safe, and we just nod our heads and pretend we are not scared leaving our 9 p.m. class every Monday and Wednesday.

But the important question, how can we stop these awful acts from happening? How can we limit crime? Is having bodyguard (for instance) could be the only solution? And if we continue to live our life like there's nothing wrong, what will be our future?

Remember for any action that we take as a community, it could either enforce or hinder the crime in the cities. Be wise and united!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
