These days as a college student, you just have to hope that your school isn't next.

Take a second to look at the list; there have been 24 school shootings in 2015. 24 shooters. 60 people shot at or killed.
This is only the statistics for 2015, since 2013 there have been 150 school shootings. What is so terrifying is that we are still allowing this to happen. And why does it happen?

We cannot stop every mentally ill person from slipping through that cracks, but immortalizing them in the news? Comparing them to movie villains? Making their lives better known than the lives of the victims?
We are practically advertising the idea that if you shoot up a school, your name will live on in infamy.
Being a school shooter is the new fifteen minutes of fame. And American media has placed these people in the limelight.
After the shooting in Oregon, President Obama practically begged for congress to come to an agreement on gun policy that would prevent school shootings from becoming a norm.
But there is a divide when it comes to gun policy. There is the belief that the individual should have the right to protect him or herself from anything.

But that being said, many students have admitted to carrying guns on the Oregon campus. It is a well-known fact that students were permitted to carry concealed weapons even though the campus was technically known as a “gun free zone”. It was reported however that many students were afraid to use their weapons, on the day of the shooting, for fear of being mistaken as the shooter by police.

So what are the gun activists so angry about? Law abiding citizens had guns, and people were still killed in cold blood. Why is this argument floating around that increasing the difficulty of obtaining a weapon is against the rights of the American people?
In no sense is the government trying to take away the second Amendment right of the American people. “The right to own and bear arms.”
What is being suggested is that screening policies limit the possibility of guns getting into the hands of the wrong people.
America is terrifying because we see the problem and refuse to do anything about it. America is terrifying because if we choose to do something about it now, lives could be saved in the future. But we still have not done anything about it.
