Your sophomore year of college is a milestone within itself. You have made it far enough to (hopefully) know what your degree is going to be and what you would like to do with it. Or you’re still trying to establish your life in terms of academics, either way, you’re two years deep into college.
Freshman year for most people is filled with shambles. You are out on your own for the first time, free to go out on your own without asking your mom for permission to go somewhere. So you get a little crazy and don’t really think about the idea of responsibilities very much. This isn’t always the case, though. There are some people that take on responsibilities right away when they start school.
Depending on where you stand in life, sophomore year is a struggle at times, but knowing it is only going to get worse doesn’t make it any better. You have to remind yourself to take a deep breath and keep pushing forward.
You might be starting to realize that time is escaping you and in no time at all, you’re going to start your third year of school. You can safely say you’re in debt, stressed out and becoming an official adult.
For some it has been a rough year, whether it be dealing with classes, balancing different duties, working while going to school, balancing your social life or just trying to figure out what you're doing with your life in general.
If you moved off campus for your sophomore year, these concerns and stresses are even more evident in your life. Living on your own without a meal plan and the responsibility of paying rent is a stress you can guarantee comes with the constant reminder that you are “adult-ing.”
By now you have realized a few things; you’re about to be a junior, classes are going to get harder, and planning for your future is more important than ever.
Some of your peers have secured internships for the summer or something else related to being an adult. You might be just planning to go home and lie on the couch or get a simple summer job.
Either way, it's important to keep yourself busy. Find a hobby to take up some of your free time and don’t forget to be productive some of the time. However, it’s just as important to have some fun and go on a spontaneous adventure if you can!
One of the most important things to remember during this time of transition is to look back on all you have overcome and accomplished in the last year and use it to push yourself forward.
Keep all of what you have learned and experienced so far and use it for your future endeavors, and don’t forget to use it when you start this next chapter in your life.
