It is senior year and graduation is right around the corner. After four years, I have learned a thing or two about how the life of a college student works. If there is one thing I've learned, it is that I should not have taken my college years for granted. The past four years have been nothing short of rewarding. I have also learned that nothing and nobody is perfect, so you have to be willing to roll with the punches and take school one day at a time. That being said, here is my advice for high school seniors beginning their college searches and for underclassmen that have already begun their college careers, based off of my personal experience.
Freshman year be like:
You are excited for partying, having freedom from your parents, and flirting with the cutie sitting next to you in class.
But then reality sets in.
You have responsibilities, such as sticking to a budget, learning your limits, and staying up all night studying. By the way, that cutie you had your eye on is already taken.
Sophomore year will be fun.
By now, you have the hang of things. This is the year that you figure out how to best manage your time, even if it includes several all-nighters.
Then you fall in love with coffee.
Coffee becomes your best friend when you realize you have to start scheduling all-nighters just to complete all of your homework and studying.
Is it junior year already?
After two years in college, you truly have everything figured out by the time your third year begins.
Time is flying by way too fast.
Reality hits when you realize you only have one more year left until you become a grown up. Do not panic though. You still have time.
Before you know it, it's senior year.
Time to prepare yourself for living and working in the real world. Yes, that means you have to learn how to adult.
It really is all about who you know.
Networking is key. You have to know people to get a job, let alone, get an interview or two.
You have nothing to worry about.
You have just spent the past four years having fun, gaining experience, and getting an education. You are ready for the real world.
The question is: Is the real world ready for you?
Keep your head up, and put your best foot forward. If you thought life in college was awesome, life after college will be even better.
