This coming November the United States will inaugurate either Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump (or, way out in left field, Johnson or Stein) as its 45th President. The path to Clinton and Trump's nominations has been a long and metaphorically bloody one, wrought with scandals and Twitter feuds left and right, making this election feel as if it's gotten out of control.
My candidate of choice is out of the race. I realized after these two became the prime nominees that I really didn't know the specifics about who they were and what they were about. Regardless, I still have opinions about both Clinton and Trump, but instead of offering my personal views, I just wanted to put out the various pros and cons of their campaigns and their plans if elected. So, buckle up, 'Mericans. It's gonna be a bumpy ride.
THE DONALD
Pros
Trump is many things; among them is a great salesman, which is an excellent skill for a President. Salesmen must be seasoned in negotiating, and this is something that will serve him well in Congress and when negotiating trade agreements.
Trump is also a businessman. He has a different view on economics, both here and internationally, then several other candidates did. In addition, he knows how partnerships between governments work. The personality.
This is a pro that I went back and forth on (you'll see it again later), but in this aspect, he does have a powerful presence, as well as confidence. It is highly unlikely that he will ever find himself manipulated.
He supports free enterprise and less regulation of the market. Libertarians like this one.
Cons
#peoplearesaying that Trump is very untrustworthy. He's been involved in at least 3500 court cases, many including fraud. A lack of trust for a presidential candidate does not bode well.
Go Trump or go bust. We've heard unfiltered Trump since his campaign started. This is because he hasn't been surrounded by direct opposers and his team can't promote any views other than his own. We don't know how he handles compromise, or if he even can at all.
That. Damn. Wall. Trump's campaign propelled to the limelight when he proposed that the U.S. build a wall and that the Mexican government fund it. Since then, he's made several statements that people find, if not downright racist, to have racial tinges, primarily toward African Americans and Latinos.
I Love Myself!! Trump's self-promotion has been a large part of his campaign, with his actual goals seeming to take a backseat. This is a marketing ploy in order to get more attention, in order to propel him to the top, but now that he's there, that hasn't stopped.
Greetings, Aliens. Because of the aforementioned racist comments, he has alienated quite a few groups of voters, including the LGBT community, legal immigrants, African Americans, Latinos, and Hispanics.
THE PANTSUIT (Clinton)
Pros
Clinton has experience. A lot of it. She has extensive foreign policy experience and has been in politics for the past 35 years, and she's been in the White House before. Because of this, she's had a unique view of life in the Oval Office.
Clinton had endured many setbacks over the years, but despite it all, she's kept her hat in the game thanks to her determination.
She has a strong drive and is very pragmatic in her way of accomplishing tasks. Her ambition has put forward a variety of goals she has for her presidency, including installing over half a billion solar panels and generating enough renewable energy to potentially power every home in the United States within 10 years.
Throughout this election process, she has been able to keep tact in the face of adversary, and give the hard-hitting clap back when warranted.
People's humanity is important to Clinton, especially in children. She is very conscious about the type of world we will leave behind for today's children, and is able to connect with them as a result. Clinton is also an advocate for education, recognizing its importance in the lives of the next generation.
Cons
I Love Myself 2.0!!
Bill, Bill, Bill. When the potential First Man left office, he left behind a lot of baggage. And not even just that large one that starts with an M. People aren't exactly keen on welcoming him back to the oval office with open arms.
You've Got Mail!! When Wikileaks leaked approximately 30,000 of Clinton's private emails, it looked like it would not only damage her run but possibly led to her being court-martialed, as the FBI hoped to do. The FBI later announced that the accusations didn't warrant criminal charges, leading to outrage. Many cites than dozens if not hundreds of others have been court-martialed for much lesser crimes and that she was able to get away with it due to her status.
Berned At The Stake. Throughout the road to the DNC, the nomination was rumored to be rigged against Bernie Sanders. That darn Wikileaks struck again when it leaked almost 20,000 DNC emails, confirming the rumors. Not only were the emails biased towards Clinton, but they also bagged Sanders instead of remaining neutral in regards to him. As a result, the DNC's chairperson, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, will resign and many have been left with the bitter taste that Clinton cheated in order to get the nomination.
The Big B. This 'B' could stand for all the baggage she will bring into the White House, but in particular, Benghazi. I'm just going to leave this here: http://www.pomonews.com/2013/05/what-heck-is-bengh...
This Dancing Stall Is Vacant. What Clinton has in ambition, she lacks in the tangible end product. She is also excellent at dancing her way around the truth and has been known to do this on multiple occasions.
...
Again, these are not my personal views and opinions. I agree with and disagree with some of these points, but this is from the public, and by no means have I detailed everything surrounding each candidate. Remember, an uneducated voter is a dangerous voter, so I encourage you to go out and do your own research on these two in order to educate yourself in time for November's election.
And no, I couldn't resist one more.
