Alright, so you are home from college for the next month or so with no homework, tests, club meetings, or responsibilities of any kind. Awesome! You are finally free to binge watch all of your favorite Netflix shows and do not have to worry about cooking for yourself or rationing out the last bit of Chinese takeout, but what you may be suffering from is a lack of stimulation. Sure, you have been looking forward to the winter holidays and bringing in the new year, but what are you supposed to do for a solid two weeks after all the festivities have ended? Before you start losing your mind, here are a few Doctor Who inspired ideas to keep you busy and free from boredom.
1. Go explore.
Maybe this one is easier said than done at a first glance, but even if you are low on funds, take the opportunity to do a bit of exploring around your hometown or wherever you may be spending winter break this year. Is there a park trail you have always wanted to visit? Maybe a cute, inexpensive cafe that you have heard about, but just never got the chance to try?
2. Spend time with old friends.
Sure it sucks to be away from all of the friends you have made in college for a month, but take this time to reconnect with people you have not seen during your time away. This isn't limited to just friends- spend time with family members or maybe even go visit some of your old grade school teachers.
3. Attempt some exercise.
No, I am not kidding. Exercise isn't exclusive to just running laps or lifting weights. If that is just not your thing, then try out something else like dance or yoga. Anything that keeps you moving and active is good for not only your physical health, but your mental/emotional health as well, especially during the darker winter months when S.A.D. tends to be at it's worst.
4. Clean.
Yes, cleaning your room is a chore no matter how you look at it. If you think about it, the cleaning needs to get done anyways and if you are bored, you might as well turn on some music and jam out to your favorite artists whilst cleaning out whatever has been lurking under your bed for the past few months (hopefully you will not find anything hiding under there).
5. While you are at it, go through your clothing.
Look, there are definitely some old Barbie and Transformers t-shirts that are a good four sizes too small lurking in your closet. Give your wardrobe a good clean and you may find that you have more room for new clothes now! Yay, more bow-ties and brightly patterned scarves!
6. Teach yourself something new.
Yes, I know, school's out and the last thing you want to do is start studying again, but maybe you have always been interested in learning how to draw anime characters and your schedule as a Spanish major just does not offer you any time for art classes, or you are studying Biology, but have always wanted to learn how to speak Vulcan? Now is your chance!
7. Try some new recipes.
Whether it is fish fingers, custard, or crème brûlée, it couldn't hurt to learn how to make some good food for yourself so that you will not have to live off of Ramen and Kraft Mac 'n Cheese when you go back to school.
8. Above all, be good to yourself.
And maybe even binge watch a bit of Doctor Who during this winter break season.
