When you're a senior in high school, your teachers and counselors often stress how important it is to apply to many different colleges. While it is true, they really don't tell you much about looking into the universities, colleges, conservatories for the curriculum they offer. When I found out what many of the colleges had to offer, I ended up applying to one school; AMDA, The American Musical and Dramatic Academy.
While it might not be a great idea to only apply to only one school, keep in mind that you must love what you do for the rest of your life to avoid anger and regret towards your career. For me, I either wanted to go into the medical field as my mom did or go into business like the restaurant my father owns. Meanwhile, theater was an option for me, many of the teachers at my school drilled into my head the idea that theater was "impractical."
I decided to follow my dreams and make them into a plan and set a goal. I've made it as far as moving to New York so far! You must know that you can do what you need, to accomplish your goals that came from dreams. If you don't know what you love when going into college, it is always totally OK to change your major. Don't let anyone interfere with choosing you major, because ultimately it is your life! If people tell you, you can't do it, which happened to me, it should make you happy when you prove them wrong. You are the writer of your own fate.
Personally, I decided to major in Musical Theater because it is what I've always loved! It took me a while to get past what others thought of my decision but I was lucky enough to have a supportive family that were all for my choice. I know that's not always the case but many people will be supportive of whatever choice you make, just make the leap of faith. All in all, deciding may be difficult but once you realize what you were made for, the blindfold will disappear and you will see whats best for.
