Have you ever worked retail and come across some customers that make you wonder, "How do you tie own your shoe?" Or for those that have never worked in retail, have you ever witnessed some interesting characters when you go shopping? Many individuals who have worked retail will tell you that in that line of work, you'll experience the true evil of people, the most dumbfounded and also the good-hearted people.
I'm here to give you an insight of the type of customers that I've come across from my own experiences.
1. The friendly, happy go-lucky, and there's always next time customer
This is the type of customer that will make any retail associate's time easy and pain-free. These types of customers are always understanding, friendly and are well mannered. Just when all hope is lost, it is a relief for many retail associates to know that these types of customers still exist.
2. The let's play 21 questions... ready, and GO!
If you are this type of customer I am sorry... Anybody who has ever worked in retail will understand this and will tell you never to be this customer. Every retail associate has encountered that one customer that will question everything about a certain product. "What's the difference between this and that?" "Why does it cost so much?" "Do I want to buy this?" ...Yes, someone has asked one of my co-workers that last question.
3. The I can't tie my own shoe and can you hold my hand?
This is probably one of the most annoying type of customers anyone in retail will ever come across. You don't know how many times I've had a customer point to a product that's right in front of them, and ask me to grab it for them. I understand that it's customer service, however, are you telling me that you can't even grab an item off the shelf by yourself? These types of customers expect you to shop for them while they watch. Sorry, but I got other customers to attend to.
4. The stubborn, the grumpy and I'm right no matter what.
These are the kinds of customers that can break your day, or be the subject of a funny story to tell your friends. If you ever work retail, you always have that one customer that'll let you have it, because you don't have what they want. Or they'll tell you, "Don't tell me that, I know you have it, you're crazy!" Yes, I've had some one tell me that, and my exact reply, "No, I'm not crazy, and you're wrong." Ladies and gentleman don't be afraid.
This is your retail survival guide from a little world my friend and I call, P-World.
