In college, there is nothing more terrifying than a blank page. The assignment is almost due, you have no ideas on what to write, and you wonder if you even still can. The vast whiteness of the canvas seems as blank and featureless as your very own mind. You begin to stare at the clock? Lay with your phone? Adjust your sitting position (maybe if you lie down that will make it easier to think?) Perhaps you even start reading a few things online, you know, just to help get the juices in your brain running again. You’ll do anything to avoid having to stare at that blank page.

If you have experienced any of these symptoms, you are suffering from the early stages of what many mistakenly refer to as “writer’s block,” but the proper, more scientific term is known as “procrastination”. Don’t worry, there’s a very simple cure for this, and it doesn’t require medicine or a co-pay at the drug store, allow me to share it with you.

Step 1: Write Something

Just write something – anything. It doesn’t need to make sense, or even have anything to do with whatever it is you’re supposed to be writing about, just give that blank page some ink – or, in our modern digital age, give that screen some pixels is probably a more relevant term. Though it may seem like a waste of time to write something irrelevant to your topic, this is what breaks the fever of procrastination. It doesn’t matter what you write about as long as long as you’re writing something. Write about weather that day. Write about what you had for breakfast that morning. Write about how your stomach hurts because you didn’t have breakfast that morning. My personal favorite, however, is to write about how you have no idea what to write about. The effect is like trying to tear down a dam. Once you put one crack in it, the others will start to form themselves, and before you know it, the dam breaks, and out comes flooding all of the wondrous thoughts and ideas you had hidden on the other side.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
