2017. It just looks so strange typed out doesn't it? It'll probably be March by the time i stop writing 2016 on my papers my mistake. Who doesn't love the new year? A fresh start, a new leaf, 365 blank pages, the cliches are endless. The unkept resolutions of years passed are endless too. This year let's set the bar at a more reasonable level, shall we?

1. I will drink more water. A bottle a day, minimum. And no, alcohol in a water bottle does not count.

2. I will call my grandparents more often. A 30-minute phone call for me is a day made for them.

3. I will read skim my textbooks.

4. I will go to the gym at least 4 times a week. And i will actually exercise once i get there and not get right back in my car and go home.

5. I will save my papers as I type them instead of waiting until they end so I don't lose 13 pages of work, again.

6. I will text my little brother more, and remember that he's not that annoying when we're hundreds of miles apart.

7. I will eat more fruit. Fruit flavored vodkas do not count.

8. I will eat more vegetables. Veggie Straws do not count.

9. I will moisturize.

10. I will not go tanning....as often.

11. I will not leave all of my papers until the night before they are due. I will only leave some of them until then.

12. I will be friendly to people in my classes.

13. I will finish an entire series on Netflix, more if possible.

14. I will read a book for fun, more if possible.

15. I will learn to cook one "real" meal.

16. I will not let my bank account fall to $0 at any point.

17. I will take legible notes (and thank myself during finals week.)

18. I will reach out to a friend I haven't spoken to in a long time.

19. I will drink milk every night before I go to sleep so my hair will grow faster.

20. I will straighten my hair less often.

21. I will send my mom monthly cards just to say hello.

22. I will put time and though into my dad's birthday gift, instead of just giving him a Dunkin Donuts gift card again.

23. I will learn a new card game.

24. I will watch a documentary.

25. I will put less sugar in my coffee.

26. I will curse less.

27. I will not have a cookie every time I go to the dining hall.

28. I will control my road rage.

29. I will not judge people based on their footwear.

30. I will not judge people based on their hair.

31. I will visit a friend at a different college.

32. I will not get so angry at people who walk slowly.

33. I will go to a professor's office hours.

34. I will start studying for my exams earlier than two hours before I have them.

35. I will wash my face every night and every morning.

36. I will volunteer my time to a cause I care about.

37. I will go to church on Sundays.

38. I will eat whole grains.

39. I will get over my hatred of wearing jeans.

40. I will wear an actual outfit to class once a week.

41. I will not sleep through class...more than 5 times.

42. I will enjoy myself, and savor every 31, 536,000 seconds of the year.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
