1. Toni’s Courtyard Café and Bakery
Food Pantry Intern at UC Merced, Andrea Ramirez, emphasizes that her favorite place to eat in Merced is Toni’s Courtyard and Café. Andrea states Toni’s café is “wholesome, good value, friendly waiters, quaint and [has a] homey feel.” Andrea’s favorite plate is the Mediterranean sandwich and sweet potato fries. Resident of Merced and UC Merced student Cecilya Barba states, “I think Toni's Courtyard and Café is the best place to eat in Merced. It’s hidden restaurant in downtown Merced, but they have amazing food and wonderful customer service. I also love the atmosphere, all the workers are welcoming, and I love sitting outside when I can.” It doesn’t get better than delicious food and employees that treat you as if the restaurant is your home.
2. El Asadero Taco Shop
This little, small restaurant in Merced offers appetizing Mexican food at an inexpensive price. The food is always served promptly, fresh, and warm. As you become a loyal customer, the employees at El Asadero begin to call you by “primo” or “prima,” meaning cousin—family.

If you haven’t already noticed the long lines in the afternoon at the UC Merced campus, Sam’s Café is extremely popular and appetizing. Not only is the Thai food delicious, but also Sam, the owner, is an extremely sweet and caring man that is always curious about how students are doing with their studies. The most famous plate on the menu is the delicious Pad Thai, including flat rice noodles, eggs, been sprouts, and your choice of chicken, beef or shrimp.

If you are ever looking for a tasty restaurant to meet your friends for brunch, Cinema Café is the place to go. Known for their scrumptious hash browns and sandwiches, Cinema Café is the perfect little restaurant in Merced to enjoy your late mornings and afternoons.

With coffee and a variety of bagels to offer, Bagel Tyme is a great place to stop by for breakfast or lunch. The mix of pastries they also offer will definitely satisfy your sweet tooth.
