With the summer months quickly approaching, many of us are looking forward to having some much-needed time off. Warm weather, countless bonfires and late nights with our friends await. We all have our favorite parts about summer, and I decided to ask the elementary school kids that I work with what they like best. Here's what they said...
Sleeping in.
Areum, 12-years-old.
It only gets more important as time goes on.
Swinging.
Jackson, 10-years-old.
As someone who used to be a committed park attender, I understand this on a deep level.
You get to go swimming.
Cassie, 6 ½-years-old (which is important).
Swimming was a popular answer among the elementary schoolers. Rightfully so, since we come from the "Land of 10,000 Lakes."
Fishing. And some other things. But that’s very personal.
Georgio, 7-years-old.
Seven-year-olds have secrets too.
Summer school.
Hannah, 6-years-old.
This is not something that I will be enjoying, but I commend you, Hannah, for wanting to be productive. Don't work too hard.
You get cotton candy at the state fair.
Arlo, 6-years-old.
Finding cotton candy and other sweet treats is easy when you live in the home of the number one state fair in the country.
Because I hate pants. And I hate long sleeves.
Nora, 8-years-old.
If we didn't have to wear them, we wouldn't. Thankfully summer is a time for shorts and dresses.
Probably ice cream.
Allisa, 12-years-old.
You're talking to a girl who once bought Dairy Queen every day for three months. Ice cream is a summertime essential.
When I can bounce on trampolines.
Amrita, 4-years-old.
If only jumping on a trampoline didn't come with an instant headache. Trampolines are used more for stargazing and sleeping outside now, but that's pretty cool too.
If I have my little sister with me playing sports.
Xander, 8-years-old.
My heart melts because of how cute it is that he included his sister.
The only thing about summer that I know is playing with my friends.
Salim, 6-years-old.
That's all we can really ask for.
