Stress can get to even the best of us. It's an inevitable part of college (and adult) life. From new overwhelming responsibilities to trying to balance a hectic new schedule, life changes bring on a lot of emotional feelings. Stress can take a toll on your body causing acne, bloating, and other health ailments. Here's some of the best ways to deal with that and help you keep your spirits up!
1. Take a warm bubble bath.
Something about bubbles and the smell of soap calms me down. Taking a nice, warm bubble bath relaxes your muscles and gives you some time to reflect and clear your mind of whatever is bothering you. I like to add some Epsom salts if it has been a particularly taxing day. A warm bubble bath is a great start to melt off some stress.
2. Hit something.
Please refrain from hitting a human being. Yes, even the stupid ones that make you angry. We don't want any lawsuits here! Getting a few punches on an inanimate object helps to relieve pent up frustration. So go take it all out on your pillow. Better yet, go buy a piñata and get a few swings in. Then you'll get to hit something and get candy out of it! What could be better!?
3. Jam out to some music.
Nothing makes me feel quite as good as jamming out to my favorite music. All you need is a Spotify playlist and some awkward dance moves to shake away your negative feelings. So go ahead and get your groove on! Bonus points if you sing along using your hairbrush as your microphone!
4. Talk with a friend.
Sometimes, all you need is a friend who's a good listener to ease your problems. A nice chat with a good friend is a great way to vent and possibly some up with a solution. If anything, they'll find a way cheer you up and make you forget about what was bothering you in the first place.
5. Eat some comfort food.
This is the most delicious option of dealing with stress. They call them comfort foods for a reason. Grab a bowl of mac & cheese or ice cream and sit down for a Netflix session. All will be well soon!
6. Play some fun games.
Video games are addictive and can suck you in for hours or even days. I think they're a great way to forget your worries. My personal favorite for de-stressing is to play the Sims and set the house on fire. All the satisfaction and none of the getting arrested for arson. A win-win situation.
7. Read!
If you're a book nerd like me, you know all about how easy it is to get lost in a book. Reading gives you a chance to escape and is the perfect opportunity to forget about your real world woes and dive into an adventure with your favorite characters. I personally like to read fan fiction and with the amount of it that there is out there for ever single fandom, the possibilities are endless.
8. Get a mani/pedi.
Getting pampered is always a good way to relieve some pent up stress. I like to get my nails done. The feeling of getting my hands and feet cleaned coupled with how much more put together I look after always makes me feel ten times better than when I walked in. Don't worry boys, you can get a mani/pedi, too. It also doesn't hurt to get a hot towel treatment for your legs!
9. Revisit favorite hobby.
People like different things, so if none of these things did it for you, just do what you like to do best. Whether it's shopping or taking a joy ride, treat yourself. So get out there and do what you want to do!
10. Take a nap.
The final solution is to just take a nap. A nap is the human equivalent of turning it off and then back on again, kind of like a reset button. Naps help you forget about your worries and power down some of the craziness that may be going on in your head. So change into you PJs and dream away your problems.
Whatever is going on, I hope that these tips and ideas have helped with your stress and frustrations. Good luck!
