Everybody loves a good app. Yes appetizers, but in this case, phone apps! They’re useful, innovative, and frankly, they’re fun! These days, it seems like there’s an app for everything, but I’ve compiled a list of some of the best apps for general health and wellness out there!

1. Sleep Cycle

This free app monitors your movement during sleep for a variety of health reasons. By tracking your movement, it can determine your quality of sleep each night. This is also so you can be woken up in the lightest stage of sleep and feel more rested all day. By setting a half hour range of when you want the alarm to go off, it will gently wake you during your lightest sleep with a soothing tone of your choice. You also have the ability to log about the day, such as “ate late” or “stressful day” and begin to notice correlations between your highest quality sleep and certain activities as well as your lowest quality sleep and the activities that led to that.

2. Steps

This is also a free app that counts your steps for the day, simple as that! No need to purchase an expensive FitBit, this app monitors your movement and helps you reach your step goal each day!

3. Waterlogged

This free app helps you keep track of your water intake for the day! You can add custom water bottles, and even take pictures of each one. You can also input how many ounces or milliliters each bottle is. Then, with just a tap of a button, you can select the water bottle used every time you finish one, and make sure you’re staying hydrated every day! The app does the calculations for you, so don’t worry about converting fluid ounces to liters or your preferred measurement.

4. Companion

Make sure you never walk alone with this app -- for free! By tracking your current location, Companion prompts you to start a trip, whether it be your walk to class or to the train for work. Then, you request companions, or people in your contacts to be notified when you reach your destination. There’s an “I Feel Nervous” button, which helps your community keep track of locations on your walk that just don’t feel right, and there’s a “Call Police” button if you are in immediate danger. There’s also a “Wander Mode” for when you don’t have a set destination, but still wants companions just in case!

5. Calm

If you’re looking to relax or reduce stress, this free app is for you. With different programs for meditation, including guided and unguided sessions, you can pick exactly what you’re looking for! Each mediation is timed, and can range from 10 minutes all the way to 8 hours! You can even pick scenes for the app, so you can find your zen in anything from a fireplace to the clouds.

6. Pocket Schedule

This app was MADE to keep you on track! You can add a semester, right down to your individual courses and assignments. You start by naming the semester and inputting the duration. Next, you can add all your courses by name, and pick a label color for each one. When you click into a class, you can input the schedule of that class, so for example, MWF 9:15-10:20am. You also have the option to add when exams are and when assignments and projects are due. You can even mark assignments as “important” and schedule reminders anywhere from 7 days before until the day it’s due! Another feature in the app lists all your assignments and exams by priority, and shows what is upcoming and what is completed.

So there you have it. Just a few genius apps to make your life better and easier! What other apps can you not live without??

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
