Ah... the snow. I loathe you, yet love you.
In my opinion, the winter is perhaps the best time of the year, and also the worst. Although I only loathe this season for a single reason, there is so much more to admire in this time of the year.
I can't stand the cold at all, walking to work without being able to feel my toes, constantly needing to wipe my nose, and needing several blankets in order to warm myself up at night. The cold is definitely the worst. As such, during the winter I only go outside when I have no other choice. While in college, whenever I had to walk to class or to the dining hall, my friends and I complained constantly about the cold and how far we had to go. Yet, we acknowledge that it was much better during the fall and spring. The cold is without a doubt, the worst part of the year.
But, I should definitely say that this time of the year is also the best time of the year for so many more reasons. The music, the holidays, the selfless attitudes and the snow! Not the cold, but the snow.
The Music is so fantastic this time of the year. Christmas music is the one thing that almost everyone, despite music preferences can listen to and enjoy. No arguing over what station to listen to in the car, it's a mutual group choice to turn to the Christmas station.
The Holidays... So many excuses for celebrating the best things about our world. Why not celebrate? Regardless of what is celebrated, Christmas, Hannukah, New Years. It's a time where we get together with family and friends, and celebrate and enjoy each other's wonderful company.
The selfless attitudes that people express are so wonderful. The bell ringers outside the malls and stores have become the telltale signs of the winter, and they are always there because they know people are willing to give their spare change or even more to people who are less fortunate. Stores are running giving trees or gift drives. My workplace was asking their employees if they knew any families who needed a free meal. Why? Because this is the time of the year where people give so much more.
And lastly, the snow. Just looking outside, and seeing it gracefully fall onto the earth. It's so beautiful. That the snow is so gently relaxing... I love it so.
I'm very divided about the winter. Mostly because my hatred for the cold almost outweighs for everything that's amazing about this time of the year.
The winter is always going to be my favorite time of the year, despite the cold.
